    try to bulk up - whey protein or weight gainer?

    Hi guys,

    not sure if I post on the right selection, but I really like to ask your input on my situation.

    I am 5'11" and 165 lbs with 19% BMI at 34 years old and I work out three times a week. I really like to bring my weight up to 185lbs or so.... if I can ever get there. I went through the calculation and believe I would need around 3300 calories to gain weight.

    I just recently took the 2 year international assignment and relocated to Shanghai, China. well, the food here is not exactly to my taste (been live in US all my life). I think the only way for me to really hit that 3300 a day is with help of either whey protein or weight gainer.

    weight gainer from GNC offer 2200 calories and whey protein offer much less....

    it sounds that I should use weight gainer but I would like to hear your though on this.

    also, how do you keep the fat in the belly in check while bulking?

    any good bulking guide that you can suggest?

    Whey + Oats + PB + Honey = homemade, cheap weight gainer.

    As far as a bulking guide, google "Bulking for Ectomorphs," it's a solid e-book.

    I had to give up weight gainer, because I was getting too fat on it. IMO, if you need to increase calories, add calories to your normal protein shakes. Add fruit, 1% or 2% milk, oats, peanut butter, etc...
    I mean, after the weight gainer, you can only take in 1000 calories. You'll only be eating 2-3 times a day.

    Stay away from gainers dude, trust me, I have 2 years of on and off experience with many, p/m for additional information. You want to gain weight, well a gainer is not the way bro

    like the guy above me said, homemade gainers all the way because:

    Food > Low quality whey + maltodextrin + sugar + cheap oils for fats

    I will try to stay with whey protein for now.

    I was about 145lbs about 1 1/2 years ago, that was the time I took weight gainer and bulked up to 170lbs and drop back to 160lbs after cut. I would have to said that was not a good experience. a lot of fat at the belly.......that is not what I really want.

    I have hard time eating here in Shanghai.... after two months here..... I really miss US. the food here is just not the same......chicken taste like rubber and steak....it is more like slice beef.

    Oh~ well another 22 months to go
