How many are you just planning on just having an emt under their belt and try to become a FF ?
I'm working on my emt as we speak , and volunteer for a hand crew . I was thinking of gettin ny associates in another field .
I figured chances of getting hired will become simmer for me.

I tried that for over a year until I wised up and got my medic cert. So hard to get hired here in FL as an emt-b. I'm actually considering getting my RN at this point.

GLDM.
Getting hired as a FF around here without AT LEAST and EMT-B cert is basically an impossibility. Even having your Basic doesnt do all that much to help, especially if you are a white male. The only way to get hired if you are a whitey is to be a medic (I/P). I can count on one hand the number of FF/EMT-Bs that i have met who are white guys.
Most people are interested in fire more than EMS so they will get their EMT-B in order to have a fighting chance at landing a paid job as a FF.

I'm actually Hispanic . Living in los Angeles .
By December I should have my emt. I don't see getting a fire science degree helping me in other unrelated fields . I like having my options open and being able to apply at different fields . But still would like to be a firefighter, hard decisions .

Hopefully this link will work for you guys. It for a picture and a post from the guys running the 9/11 stair climb here in CO.
This helmet belonged to FDNY Squad 252 member Kevin Prior. He was in the north tower when it collapsed.Prior's body was found three weeks later, but his mother was troubled that his helmet wasn't recovered. Her concerns were recorded in a TV interview. A Medical Examiner's Office staffer who saw the broadcast recognized the squad number and hand-delivered the helmet to Prior's family. The helmet will be part of the 911 National MuseumR.I.P. Hela

Some will staff ALS units but the private service I mentioned before, never seems to be ALS. Every other GT company I'm looking at working PT all have medics on all their units.
Thinking about those EMT positions they have overseas or offshore, if I have the chance, I'll probably go for it just for the change of pace and experience.live laugh love <3

I wonder if in 10 years when white people are the minority we will be the ones getting priority.

I kept trying to figure out a way to make the fact that im a Jew work in my favor on my applications. Sadly, no Jew box to check off.

Just had my first STEMI patient, guy was only 42 years old and in decent shape. Heavy smoker though.
Called 911 after a sudden onset of crushing substernal chest pain, monitor showed sinus tach at a rate of 110 ish. Morphine for pain management, initial dose was 2 mg IV with no change. Patient required a total of 6 mg before pain subsided. Flown out to the nearest cath lab.
Havent been able to follow up on him yet.

There probably wont be anything too tricky on the test, CPR is pretty straight forward stuff. Just be sure to know what the difference in treatment between a witnessed/unwitnessed arrest is. And there will likely be a question or two regarding 1 rescuer vs. 2 rescuer treatment with a pediatric patient.

Found out in class today that a medic in a nearby county accidentally hung a lidocaine drip instead of a normal saline drip, which ultimately killed the patient. He dun goofed as hard as possible. The 2 bags of fluid were kept directly next to each other on their unit.
I hope he has a good lawyer.
