Yesterday I coordinated a Reebok commercial with Johny Hendricks and talking to him about training got me pumped for todays workout session. This is a guy who trains 25 hours per week.... or his family doesn't eat.
It put things into perspective more for me. "We" bodybuild because we love training and enjoy the results but few of us have to do it to pay bills. But we should train as if we did!
So today...I'm going to hit the gym hard and fast...as if my power bill requires it !

Coordinated the commercial? Does that mean you'll be in it?

No ma'am...I'm a stunt coordinator...we rarely go on that side of the camera. I just put together a small fight with Johny and the actor... just a couple of kicks... easy stuff.
You know... I've worked a lot of actors and athletes... and some are exactly what you would think they are... but if you didn't know Johny was a fighter... you would never guess it by the way he talks. Soft spoken... very family oriented... just a super guy... almost shy. Sitting there talking to him about stuff... family.. kids... it dawned on me... This guy is very likely to be the next UFC Welterweight champion of the WORLD ! This guy... is the guy I saw beat the **** out of GSP and get robbed of the decision. And I'm pre-fight posing with the guy.... he's smiling at me... he could kill me... but he's just a normal guy.

It's been 3 days since I did legs and they are still "tight" so I guess my new routine is good. Not sore...but I can still feel them.
Today I will foam roll them a LOT and hit legs hard. I have a massage scheduled for noon... that usually calms them down a bit.

I have posted my before pics here... and now I'm going to share a bit about motivation. EVERY morning I get my coffee and go to the computer to do some social networking and then I read motivational stories. I read about people who had nothing and wanted to start a business so they worked 16 hours a day 6 days per week for months and months and the thing that drove them was not money.
It was success.
I read about people who were so overweight that they couldn't get out of their house. Literally could not fit out of the door and they decided to make a change. The thing that drove them was not to be a fitness model or a bodybuilder.
It was success.
One of my favorite athletes "of all time" is Muhammad Ali. He became a fighter in a world that was dominated by a few and he told the world "I'm gonna show YOU how great I am." Nobody believed him... he was just a bunch of talk. But he had confidence in his ability and he knew that nothing was going to stop him from being the "greatest of all time." He stated with confidence "I'm gonna show YOU how great I am." Did he do this for money and fame? No
It was for success.
I have a picture of Ali standing over Sonny Liston after he knocked him out and at the top of my picture it says "I'm gonna show YOU how great I am!" I adopted this phrase as my motivation for 2014. In January of 2013 I was overweight and out of shape and I made great progress last year but this year... I'm gonna show YOU how great I am!
For success.
Set your goals obtainable. Listen to people who know what they are talking about and pick a path to that goal and knock down anything or anybody that gets in your way. Have your goal be for SUCCESS!

Thanks for the compliments guys... seriously I am humbled. I can honestly say that it was Team iSatori that got me involved in BB.com on a steady basis and MUCH of my success in the gym came from tips and suggestions that these wonderful reps gave me along the way. Team iSatori has a well rounded bunch of reps.... NicTroupe is a Mens Physique ... Harry is a strong man.... Tiffany is a fitness model .... Sean is a complete stud with TONS of knowledge... NicGalla has legs that most people only dream of having (no homo) and Huskie is a competing bodybuilder.
These guys and gal inspired me last year to continue my transformation. ANY question I would have.... they would gladly help me.
I'm glad to be an official rep with Team GAT not for the things I get for my work... but because it's a company that is much like iSatori... full of good people and good supplements. And if any of my work as a rep can help ONE person the way I got help... then all of this was worth it.
I can't wait to get my pictures next weekend... one complete year from fat to fit. And even more so.... I can't wait to see what I can accomplish this year because ....

Today is one of those day where I have my plate completely full. I REALLY need to go to a firefighter association meeting but those things can go on and on and on. I have a spray tan at noon which means I have to have my training complete and be showered by 11:30 to head out for the tan. I have to get the tan today because I have a photo shoot on Saturday...so that can't be missed either. To add one more thing..I have to go pick up my daughters bike by 2:00.
Sooo... what did I drop off my plate? Family comes first so the daughters bike remains. My training comes second so LEGS stay on the plan. Tan... a part of my master plan to become a fitness model... stays.
Sorry Association meeting... I'll read the minutes on line.Member of the Global Bodybuilding Organization

TeamGAT has a good one Scott Roland! Looking forward to seeing how GREAT YOU can become in 2014 sir! Photo shoot huh? Mr. Big Time already for Team GAT?
I may need to start naming all of my exercises after people...
example 20 second leg presses after an Ex-GF... why you ask because they are a B*tch!! lolBB.com Article

All good things must come to an end...Great things last forever!

Thanks for the kind words good sir! ! And naming leg-presses after the EX... priceless!!
Let me take you through the end of my training today. I finished legs and was really proud that I got through it all because more than once...I wanted to quit. But I always think of you guys...I seriously do. You people motivate me. I'm looking at all that I have to accomplish this week so I had to get one of my cardios out of the way today also. I opted for the treadmill and increasing the incline. With 2 minutes to go..I have this stupid thing on the steepest incline there is... dang near straight up and down and the speed is too fast to climb..has to be a slow jog. My thighs are screaming... My chest is pounding... I felt like I was near completion but kept telling myself..don't look yet because if there's more than 30 seconds..I may not make it. If it's under 30 seconds..I think I can make it.
I couldn't stand it anymore so I looked... DAMNIT ! 34 SECONDS LEFT. First thought... screw it... I've done enough...what's 30 seconds going to matter. Then I reflected on all of the motivational videos I've watched and posted... "If you quit..that makes you a quitter! If you fail.. that makes you an athlete!" "I do what others can't do!" "What hurts today will be tomorrows warm up!" And then I heard the song pounding in my headphones... "Is that all you got? I'LL TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT. Is that all you got? I'LL TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT ! ! I'LL TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT! !" And just when I think I am literally going to fall.... I look up... TIME !
I did it.
As I walked/crawled out of the gym I thought of another favorite saying... "I really regret that workout... said no one ever"

Nervous
OK... I run into burning buildings for a living. I have been set on fire and run over by cars for a living. So why am I so friggin nervous about my first posing lesson tomorrow?
Is it because she looks like this?
or because I feel like I look like this:

One year from this
to this
This is in no way a brag post.... It's just a way to remind me of where I was and hopefully to inspire someone to make a transformation. I owe a huge thanks to a LOT of people and there's no way I could list them all but I do want to give a bro hug to one guy in particular.
Sean Anderson
When I read his journal about being "the fat kid" growing up and seeing his progress... it inspired me. Along the way he has always offered his knowledge about lifting and eating. He taught me to stop using the word "bulking" and use lean gain instead. He also introduced me to another really groovy dude at Team GAT and helped me land a rep position with an awesome company. Greg Hymes is very much like Sean.
I've entered more internet contests and challenges than I can count.
Basically... if I can do it... ANYONE can do it. It takes commitment and dedication. It's a 100% lifestyle change. I'm glad I made the move...I've never felt better and in 4 months... I turn 51 years old.
