i'm the same way with things in the house and critters in general: don't like to kill them. i ignore the bugs. i see a rolly polly here and there in my basement and just ignore them. even the spiders usually. house flies do bother me, and we get them in waves every now and then, so i bought the wife one of those bug zapping tennis racquets and she's enjoying it lately lol. i just use a damn towel and swat them.

He'll chase anything that moves. If he spots it before it can get out, or I put it out, it's a goner.
Houseflies is where I draw the line; they get no quarter here. It's not so much what they'll eat if they land on food, it's what they leave behind.

Ironwill2008 V3.0
Good session today; I had plenty of energy going in. Today's training was:
Barbell Lunge
95x5 W/U
185x5 W/U
245x5
245x5
245x5
T-Bar Row PWO
100x10 W/U
160x10
160x9
160x8
Smith Machine Flat Press
95x10 W/U
135x10
185x10
225x8
Completed the session in fiddy-five minutes. Met previous numbers on Lunges. Still working to get these to 3x6 before deciding whether to stick with that scheme or add some weight and do triples.
Rows didn't advance, but reps were good, and gave me a pretty good upper back workout. This exercise is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, and as a result, I may start looking for a substitute in the near future.
Lost a rep on Flat Presses, not for want of strength or effort but my right shoulder not being real happy today. Didn't want to tempt fate, so I got what I could and called it a day. No problemo though; shoulder feels okay so it's all good.
Nothing more to report at this time. I'll rest tomorrow, and do some work on my truck, then get in there on Friday for some Romanian Deadlifts, Curls, and Dips.
PWO meal was what is probably my favorite egg dish of all---my wife's takeoff on Huevos Rancheros. These are made in 'cups' formed from buttered/salted flour tortillas placed in a muffin tray, then filled with cooked rice, black beans, salsa, cheese, and an egg carefully broken (with the yolk intact) on top. Then, they are baked in the oven, and served with more salsa spooned over. Can't even begin to describe in words how tasty these are. Some apple sauce and a glass of milk accompanied.

Thanks. I've been doing Lunges for a long time, and the load just gradually increased over that time.
That "Huevos Rancheros" variant is hands-down the tastiest thing I've ever found that can happen to an egg. Bake time is about 15 minutes or so @425. When the egg has cooked through, the beans/rice/cheese/salsa in there will be heated through as well (depending on your oven, you might have to adjust the bake time).
Enjoy.
Hey, thanks! The egg meals I post are all my wife's handiwork; the other meals are those I cook (I really enjoy cooking).
I've been training for a long time, and while progress has slowed, but my enthusiasm to continue to pursue it has not.
Welcome to my journal.
That'll get your attention!
Other than finding a small dead Garter snake in the garage about 100 years ago (poor little guy couldn't find his way back out, I guess, and lack of food/water nailed him), that was the first time a snake ever got into the house. On a few occasions in the past, I'd seen black snakes crawling out of the hedge and across the lawn , but they never came inside. It's unfortunate that Sherman found him first. No brain, no gain.

LOL. I always have a hard time sticking to a higher-rep scheme for Lunges; the challenge of really loading up the bar continues to call my name.
Those eggs are just about as tasty as an egg can be; they're the perfect combination of everything that's good. I recall, as a kid living in Houston, Texas, going to real Mexican restaurants, and enjoying real Huevos Rancheros. Those little tortilla-cup items are a pretty decent second.
LOL.
I did some stuff in the gym, and lifted some iron, and then it was on to the important part---the meal!
Seriously, give them a try; there's nothing more to them than what I posted. Just need some cooked rice already on hand.No brain, no gain.

Hey, Steve; still inching my way forward. I understand about being busy; spare time is at a premium for just about everyone these days, even us retired dudes.
By all means, give it a go. As mentioned earlier, you might have to futz around with oven time, depending on how you like your eggs cooked and your particular oven's temp controls. No brain, no gain.

Ironwill2008 V3.0
Capped the week's work with a very good session. More progress was made than lost, and that's always a good thing. Today's training was:
Romanian Deadlift
bar x1o W/U
135x5
185x5
225x5
275x5
325x5
Hammer Curl
20x10 W/U
40x1o
40x9
40x8
Dip
bw +50x8
bw +50x8
bw +50x7
One hour elapsed, start to finish on this one. I picked up the 25th rep on RDLs, putting me at reps-across, and punching my ticket to add weight next week. Just going to bump a nickel this time though; 325x5 was some serious work, so 330 should prove to be a good load.
Added a good-looking rep to Hammers, bringing me that much closer to 3x10, my current goal on this exercise. Not sure what I'm going to do when I get there; 45s might be a bit much, but there's only one way to find out.
Gave back a rep on Dips, but that wasn't unexpected. I'm right on the edge with these, and a rep will probably swing back and forth. Time will tell; I still don't have plans to abandon these just yet.
Done. I'll rest over the weekend, probably indoors and out of the big storms forecast to roll through here over the next couple of days. Just hoping that the lights remain on, since I've dragged my feet over getting a stationary generator installed. Monday will see me back in Ironwill Gym for Front and Split Squats, Chins, and Seated Presses.
Post-WorkOut meal in the wok; Sweet & Sour Chicken
On the table, over rice. One of our favorite stir-fry meals. Glass of milk on the side.
No brain, no gain.

that's some serious weight to be moving today, that's awesome.
also awesome is how much food you cooked. how long will that last?
my wife mostly enjoys my cooking but doesn't like leftovers, so i try to cook enough for like 5 or 6 portions at a time.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Thanks, Domi; I had a very good day.

I know I use the word, "favorite" a lot here in describing the meals I post, but S&S Chicken is very high on the list, and is actually my wife's favorite meal that I cook. I like it so much that I'd be perfectly happy to eat it once per day, every day. srs.
I'm also not a big fan of cooking vast quantities of foods. About three days' worth of anything is about it; past that, stuff loses it's "fresh" taste. And no doubt, at least some of the nutritional value has started to go away.
Seafood of any kind is another story; if I cook fish or shrimp, etc., I'll only cook for that one meal. None of that stuff holds up as leftovers. No brain, no gain.

yeah 5-6 portions does that for me to. 2 the night of, and then yeah for the next 3-4 days. I gotta start doing some new stuff though lol, i've been using a lot of the same recipes. do you repurpose any of your leftovers? or just heat and eat? i've entertained the idea of trying to cook up a bunch of ground beef at once, for instance, and then using it for something else the next day, but it seems like too much work.
as far as seafood, i don't cook too much at home, though i suppose some salmon wouldn't be a bad pickup the next time i'm at the store...Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Awesome work, almost putting numbers straight across everything! Weights will be added all over in the weeks to come! Looks like you are progressing as you predicted with RDL's and that arm pump is only going to get more intense with the addition of extra hammer and dip weight!
Never been a huge fan of sweet and sour chicken, but its not something I would turn my nose up at these days, taste buds must be maturing with age.Eat the damn yolk.

The only thing I'll re-purpose is baked/roasted chicken breasts. Sometimes we'll eat them as they come out of the oven, and sometimes I'll use them either when cooked or the next day diced up in a salad (another of my wife's favorites), diced and added into a pasta/veg dish, or shredded and mixed with bottled barbecue sauce (which is quick and really good on a sammich with a salad.
As far as ground beef goes, I'll cook ground sirloin up in 3-4, 6-oz patties, and refrigerate what I don't eat at the time. As 'leftovers,' I'll just reheat a patty in the Nukemeister. I found a long time ago that if I initially fry them slightly undercooked, that when they're reheated in the microwave, they're just as good as when originally out of the fry pan---not dry at all.
as far as seafood, i don't cook too much at home, though i suppose some salmon wouldn't be a bad pickup the next time i'm at the store...
Thanks, G; I had a good day. Based on past history, I expected RDLs to move up fairly quickly, at least for a while. Progress may slow a bit from here on out, but I still expect to get back to at least 365 with some work.
Never been a huge fan of sweet and sour chicken, but its not something I would turn my nose up at these days, taste buds must be maturing with age.
All our grandkids like S&S, even as little kids ^^^^that age.
The cups/bowls of chop salad frequently seen ITT have lately been dressed with a very simple sweet and sour dressing---cider vinegar, sugar, and canola oil. After prep though, the salad must sit in the fridge for a full day before eating, otherwise, it just doesn't taste right when first prepared. Probably some required reaction between the onions in it and the vinegar.
Lulz.
Gonna have some reheated for lunch today. No brain, no gain.

Do you use a meat thermometer? If so, I'd like to know what temp you're taking them out when cooked initially.
I may have mentioned this before, but we've started adding LOTS of COARSE onions to our ground beef before pattying and the onions really help to hold moisture and they reheat really well, too.Pull-Up PR: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=177233951

Thanks, Dan. I had a really good day Friday; felt like light weight for every set.
There's something about the combination of sweet/sour sauce and onions that's just irresistible.
Hey, thanks, Jason. Indeed, that repetitive, heavy work for hours on end will do a number on every body part.
No, I don't Mark; instead, I rely on a kitchen timer to tell me when to turn them/take them out of the skillet. Cooking on an electric cooktop, the burner temp settings are very repeatable.
I have an ancient analog thermometer that I use on the rare occasions when I cook an entire turkey or a beef roast (very rare for me since my wife doesn't eat red meat, and I'd be hard-pressed to eat an entire roast before it went bad. Other than that, I time everything based on past practice.
I may have mentioned this before, but we've started adding LOTS of COARSE onions to our ground beef before pattying and the onions really help to hold moisture and they reheat really well, too.
I had a short recipe for a mix of stuff to blend in with ground beef that included steak sauce, yellow mustard, Worchestershire sauce, and a couple of other ingredients all in specific amounts, but I can't find it.No brain, no gain.
