haha I have stopped giving serious thought into people's questions they ask me. Last one a friend asked me how to lose weight quickly. My reply "Meth." If I get asked a serious question I'll give a serious answer.

All the time!!!
It starts out with them asking, me telling, and them responding with "really? because on my yahoo home page(/insert unreliable source here) they had an article that said..."
I just think to myself "since you're such an authority why don't I just hire you to do the up-trainings with my trainers every week and I can stop doing my CEU's, pouring over medical journals, and looking at new case studies all day".NASM CPT

Sometimes. I really dont waste too much time on it. If people are a little too stubborn and stuck it there own ways I'll just let it go. Theres no need to argue as they wont change with mind.
Not that I like playing the " my body is better so i know more" card as I don't believe that someones body is a direct correlation to ones fitness knowledge but when im with friends and they try and argue about fitness or muscle building with me I play it.
I'm a little confused as to why you would ever want to annoy someone who is seeking advice from you. As you've stated, you annoy them by saying that and no doubt you would come off as a bit of a douchebag. You don't really know this person and for all you know is that they are legitimately looking for a PT. Not only that, you dont know how many people that person may have referred to you. Now you are the last person they will refer too.
As for Wellness Coach sounding awful, thanks for the input. I dont think I have read you saying a positive thing about someone else on here before.Last edited by jules_d1; 02-02-2010 at 02:35 AM.

They're not seeking advice, they're just making conversation at a party. That's the scenario I was responding to. Different scenarios get different responses. I used to be a chef, and they'd talk about how much they loved food, doesn't mean they wanted to pay me to cook them dinner. Conversation.
You don't really know this person and for all you know is that they are legitimately looking for a PT. Not only that, you dont know how many people that person may have referred to you. Now you are the last person they will refer too.
I will happily share my experiences and knowledge. But it's not the only thing I'm interested in talking about. And as we see so often on the forums, people don't value what they don't pay for, so all that free advice they asked for, they ignore anyway.
Try going to a party with a doctor and see what happens when people ask for free medical advice, or a lawyer, etc. Like me, at best they'll have a conversation on the subject for half an hour and then will have had enough.
Everyone has to draw the line somewhere. I guess this leads to another one...
You know you're a personal trainer when... you never socialise, only network for more clients.

As trainers, our jobs require a lot more than exercise prescription and analysis of movement. If my client has a different opinion and argues with me about how to tackle their health problems, fitness needs etc, I will go try and prove that my point is valid. They are paying for my service.
But if some random person is completely disagreeing with me I will just drop the topic or walk away. No point of heating yourself up over someone who isn't really interested in what you have to say.Fate Loves The Fearless

Agreed. The first time from a pt on my dl form. Told me to put my ass lower when starting so it's like parallel to the ground. God that set me back a few.
Then a guy told me to not go too fast (by adding too much weight every workout and limit it to 5lbs a month) on dl. He started saying how he used to be able to do 315. Now of course when I first started a couple months back I though 315 was like a lot of weight lol. Now I limit myself to 5lbs every workout. Don't know why, but I don't have a workout partner, so I don't want to go too high on some of those lifts where I'd need a spotter in case I fail.Hello! I am very sorry that you are reading this page right now instead of posting hilarious comedy on the internet. I'm sure this issue will resolve itself soon.

when people act like you're the antichrist if they see you with an alcoholic drink or hamburger
when you are at a bbq/party/wedding and people act differently or feel guilty about what they are eating/drinking when they find out your a pt.
people feel the need to sell you about the INSERT STUPID FAD DIET that their uncles cousins twice removed mother did and lost lots of weight in an attempt to discredit your knowledge
