Protein powder is not a magic...pill? . Diet and training will lead to weight loss. I know Will Brink had an article discussing the possible weight loss benefits of whey, but this will be far behind a solid diet and training. The main point of protein powder is to help you hit your daily macros. It can also work as a way to "crush" cravings.
That all said, some brands I use and enjoy for the above mentioned reasons:
PES Select - some of the best macros if you're really concerned; only 110-120 cals per serving (each with 24g protein)
Blue Star Whey-Smooth
BPI Whey-HD
Others I have heard good things and plan to try
BB.com Protogen
Hydra-6
Pro Jym
Protizyme (sp?)
Beverly UMP
Personally I prefer a blend to a straight whey for satiety reasons, and they tend to mix thicker shakes.I'm the clever one, you're the potato one.

Well protein shakes are only useful if you need help hitting your protein requirement (1.5g/Kg bodyweight for muscle gain). Fat loss is going to come with dieting and cardio. You sort of have conflicting goals. I usually tell my clients to choose one or the other.
Ultramyosyn Whey by MET-Rx is high quality, good tasting, and very cost effective, as well as low calorie (110-120 cals a scoop)
Send me a message if you have any more questions/want some help. Good luck! The 2 most important things to me when training are 1. The Muscle Mind Connection. and 2. Intensity

Protein is just powdered food. It's not a magic muscle button.
Find a brand that is 3rd party validated or has a strong company history.
Some good options (I have tried):
Animal Whey
Cellucor
BPI Whey HD or ISO HD
Cutler Total Protein
MuscleTech Platinum
Beverly UMP
Brands I haven't tried but are still great options:
PES
Blue Star
TruteiniForce Blueberry Muffin: forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169778043
Animal Whey CCC: /showthread.php?t=167687511

The biggest differences in protein powder is the flavor. Protein is protein at the end of the day and as long as you're hitting your daily protein intake, you will be fine. Don't worry about fast absorbing vs slow absorbing or anything like that. Just look at nutritional labels and make sure it's a protein with macros that fit your diet.
Some of my favorites:
XF UP 2.0
Blue Star Whey-Smooth
BPI Whey-HD
BSN Syntha 6
Trutein
Cutler Total Protein
Cellucor Cor-Whey
BB.com ProtogenProgressive overload + progressive eating = gains. Simple as that!

Is Total protein just whey ? Or is it a blend of casein and whey?
The ingredient profile list MPI and MPC, so i assumed that it contained casein too. But I've been told otherwise. Can someone confirm this? You can't get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.

There are a lot of good proteins out there OP. First and foremost, get a quality one forma reputable company. Look for things such as "no fillers", "fully disclosed", "non-prop"...this way you know what you are getting. Next is personal preferences...how important is taste?, texture? Mixibility?
TRUE GRIT: PROTEIN offers you Micellar whey (both fast and slow digesting protein), taste great and mixes effortlessly. Its great for baking and has no fillers, fully diclosed and non-prop....as ALL True Grit products are.
BPI, Protogen and Animal are a few other good ones that come to mind.🌍 Talk is cheap, Actions are priceless 🌝

Whey protein isn't going to make you lose your belly fat, a caloric deficit is going to do that. Do you know how many calories that you are currently taking in? If not, check out your maintenance calories before anything else. Then go check out this thread to figure out how many calories your body needs to lose weight. Unfortunately, you cannot gain muscle and lose body fat at the same time. Start with the fat loss - and then put some muscle on after that. Here are my favorite proteins if you need help hitting that # -
Animal Whey
Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey
Blue Star Whey Smooth

I know man, just a point of view. I love Whey-Smooth (tied as top protein with Select for me) and while it's technically a blend I still feel it's predominately whey. Do you happen to know the break down of Whey-Smooth?
If you can for both Whey-HD and Total that would be extremely awesome. I've wondered for awhile. Also, Strawberry Cake is phenomenal!I'm the clever one, you're the potato one.

One that is high quality, and doesn't bother your stomach. Again, supplements aren't magic. That's why they're called supplements. They supplement your diet and training.
