I've never gotten called out for anything while playing video games, but I've never played any team game or any game on voice chat so there has never been an opportunity. Though I've heard my voice enough on recording to have a good understanding of what it sounds like to other people.

I have come to realize that almost always, people never sound like what others "expect" when they've only known them via text for so long.

Dear Rant,

I can take the insults in stride, and I am not opposed to returning the volleys. I believe this back and forth is actually one of the primary facets of the Rant's modus operandi and I participate in it with good-natured intent the vast majority of the time. I would be a liar if I said it didn't sometimes sneak through my defenses, but for a few months now I have said repeatedly that I don't want my presence here to be an overall negative thing. I have come to respect most of the Ranters as intelligent, humorous, and fun people. The rest I have come to respect their opinion of me and moved on with my life and Ranting. I'm not stupid, despite what Hish appears to think (jk Hish, I know you're just playing).

I can tell when I'm not wanted. If it was just TAAB, that would be one thing, and I would chalk it up to the fact that not everyone is going to mesh well in life and, by extension, in the Rant. But it clearly is not just TAAB. I have offered to leave in the past and received PMs from Ranters telling me to stick it out. I appreciate those PMs and the vote of confidence; honestly, I do.

However, sadly, repeated attempts to not be a "stubborn **** stain that refuses to be scrubbed off and flushed away" have obviously not borne fruit and turned me into a better Ranter. I am arguably worse for the Rant today than I was six months ago and the summation of it all is a negative value in my humble opinion.

So it is with some degree of regret that I will step out and let the Rant continue on without my presence or influence to stop someone who is perceived as a "grade-A douchenozzle" from ruining it for the rest of the Ranters. Sorry for using your quotes so much, MJW; they just worked well.

What I won't do: I'm not going to write any parting shots or try to get the last word. I think that's bad taste. What I am not doing: I am not writing this in hopes that I get more PMs asking me to stay.

I'm not being dramatic about this choice; I'm just gone.
