Well here's the thing: I'm a guy. I love cars.
If I want to pay $70k on a Viper, Let Me. If I wanna restore a '70 Chevelle for $40k, let me. Don't go around bashing people and claiming we 'Show off'. I do not buy a certain car just to 'Show Off'. When you make that claim it makes your argument and invalid. At least acknowledge the other side so you don't look a biased ass.

Cars can be hobbies for some. I get enjoyment driving my expensive and flashy car around. Id rather invest my money into that than many other, non investment hobbies that some have... My last 25k car I put 30,000kms on the clock, owned the car for 1.5yrs and sold it for 22k in a rush (if kept for another year I could sell for 25k in todays market) Small loss (could have been virtually no loss) for driving around a car like that. The reality is you can get a 'fun' car for next to nothing. All you need is a manual transmission and front wheel drive. Used model Japanese cars from the mid 2000s will only set you back a few grand at this point, will be fun to drive, and are relatively reliable for the most part (i.e. Honda civic 5 speed). On a car like that means you can feel it pushed towards it's handling limits just driving it around town or out in the country, and manual transmissions add to that experience.

Buy whatever you want as long as you can afford it.
This doesn't mean you can afford the monthly payment, be able to pay your half of the rent, take your girlfriend out twice a week, buy food and pay your utilities only to have $50 at the end of the month. This is not what 'afford it' means. Afford it means you can afford a $700 car payment, pay your $3500 mortgage, pay all your bills before they are due [without a credit card] and still have $1500+ to put away each month. This can be scaled down maintaining the same percentages but you get my point.. I hope.To succeed at doing what you love, you often must do many things you hate.

You would need conservatively $2M minimum to retire at age 45 and live another 25 years without working. And that's for a pretty mediocre lifestyle.
As you get older, certain expenses increase.
4 years ago my dad spent 2 weeks in the ICU. The bill was $900k. He had very good insurance. But with most insurance you would be hit with a bill for $175k. There goes 25% of the principal you were using to live off of.
Bottom line, you are dreaming if you think you can retire at 45 with $800k.

I kinda have my plan laid out. If everything goes right, I should have my CM degree making $80k while living frugally. I'm hoping to have a used good conditioned SRT Viper by 35. Idk what the prices will be 9 years from now, but I'm guessing $50k-$60k. I'll put down a big down payment to keep car notes low and allow me to pay it off fast.
Besides a nice car, I really don't care for much else.

Agree with OP. I didn't buy a beater but I did buy a used 2010 Hyundai Sonata for 7k. Cheap for the model year and reliable. Nothing wrong with it except a few minor things that I fixed right after I bought it for less than 150.
No monthly car payment. Feels good mang.
No hate for the guys that like cars but.. I couldn't care less. Seems a waste to me to buy a car for a ton of money but some posters here would rag on the Hyundai because they think its sub par to another make/model. *shrug*R.I.P. Mainsqueeze530

lol the average person doesnt retire with anything close to 2m
also health care is completely different in phil/thailand. Which is why medical tourism to both countries is growing(esp thailand). Look up some comparison charts.
Id be able to live more than comfortably on the 40k+ id receive from interest alone.
I think you are the one dreaming

Drive a pick up with 190,000 miles on it.
Dad drives a 1999 Durango with 271,000 miles on it
Waiting til winter is over to go buy something. Never really drove a nice fast car yet and don't know if I should just get a 10-13,000 car and pay it off very quickly, or go so what expensive and buy a 25, 000 2010 camaro. But really it is just to work and back but in the summer driving to the beaches and all over its a pussy magnet. Kinda stuck and not sure what to do

20 years ago I bought a 1976 datsun 260z for $3k.
Ran off twin carburettors and sucked fuel like a mofo but never let me down once.
It was rough.
Graduated from law school and always vowed to repay that car for its loyalty.
Now replaced the carbs with standalone engine management (haltech) and injection, as well as individual coil ignition, gets around 10L/100km on premium.
