My friend's wife was a triathlete the past 2 years too. She did the last 2 Ironmans in Madison the past couple years. But now 'retired' and according to them switched to Xfit cause its cheaper and not as grueling for her. But for cereal, they were spent a ton of money to join a training group for the Ironman. But she was training every night after work. They were telling me how big a business the Ironman really is and how sponsors really love the Ironman cause the median income of participants is one of the highest of any amateur sport. So companies make a ton of money from participants buying stuff.
Yeah, $50 is what I'd pay.
Timberwolf started doing more ' functional' stuff just a couple years ago I think. But he got his size and strength from traditional workouts before though. And he's a personal trainer with his own gym. I remember reading his post before where he said he was going to start switch workouts and trying to do the 'functional' fun exercises. I got no issues with any exercises anyone does in xfit or any gym. I actually do some of that stuff too. But like Timberwolf, I ain't paying $1800 a year to do it and don't tell people its the best thing since sliced bread.
I think you have a good gym. I didn't know what xfit was a few years ago. And looked it up cause I heard people mention it. I saw and still see stuff online about people being elitist. I think even the xfit advertising was pushing elitism. But it's out there. I really didn't know anything about it and didn't think much about it. I didnt even know it was that popular till couple years ago.
But once a friend joined xfit last year, it was like it was scripted. He was telling me all the stuff I saw online, that people said they were getting from friend/coworkers that joined Xfit. Same stuff about how its superior cause its functional, traditional gyms make people only good for looks, traditional workouts don't work, paleo diet is the healthiest way to eat, etc.
Most personal trainers suck. Today, I was stretching and looked over at the benchpress station. The personal trainer was spotting his older client doing benchpress. He didn't even notice that his client is benchpressing with right hand pinkie on the ring, and left hand index finger on the ring. His bar was off center and trainer just kept telling him one more...one more...though his bar wasn't moving up smoothly...wonder why.
And sometimes it seems like they give every client the same generic workout. I can see maybe giving the females clients or older clients the workouts with all those crazy exercises they do. But they even have the younger male clients doing all that medicine ball stuff, cable stuff, isolation stuff, etc. I really don't think beginners should be working on isolation exercises, machines or cables at all. Need to teach them some core compound weights first. I seriously think I could train someone and have them look better than someone that one of the personal trainers works on.My vids
