    Squat #'s vs. Dead #'s

    I dead more than I squat but my buddy is the opposite and said that I was the 'odd' one. Most people deadlift more than they squat right? I'm at about 350lbs on deads and 300lbs on squat, I think I can go more on dead's but I'm scared. Is there a "norm"?

    as far as i know.. that's the norm, to deadlift more than you can squat.

    The first time I tried doing deadlifts, I could not do very much weight. Very quickly the weight went up and currently my work sets w/ DL is like 10% more than my squat.

    Does your pal deadlift with frequency?

    Most people deadlift more than they squat. If the don't it's usually because they haven't mastered deadlift form like they have for squats or because their hamstrings are lagging way behind.

    I can only squat 255 (ATG) but I just deadlifted 385 today. My back is way stronger than my legs, apparently. Something I have to work on.

    back when i only used to squat to parallel, my squat was way higher than my dead. Now I squat ATG and am about 100 lbs short of my DL max. I would not be surprised if most people who squat more than their deadlift are not squatting ATG. Not that there is anything wrong with that

    Just out of curiosity, why is the heaviest squat of all time higher than the heaviest deadlift of all time, even though msot people dead more than they squat? Is it because of the equipment used for squats ie. squat suits?

    This is purely a guess, but i'd say grip strength is limiting the deadlift.

    My stats:
    Squat 275 x 8
    DL 365 x 6

    Deadlift=180 kg X 6 reps
    Squats=100 kg X 6 reps (ATG)

    My deads have always been stronger than my squats. Probably because I go ATG on the squats and have never maxed out.

    Deads. If you do ATG squats, it's closer to your bench (at least for me, see sig)

    It's always cool to see others that are built well and have lower numbers like me.

    Squat (ATG) = 155 x 5 or so. Never maxed ATG though.
    Dead = 365 x 3 best.

    A little far off, huh?
