people ask me how to train, and i answer "i look at what you do and then i do the exact oposite"
if your family was captured and you were told you needed to put 100 pounds onto your max squat within two months or your family would be executed, would you squat once per week? Something tells me that you'd start squatting every day

Tuesday: speed and agility training for half an hour
Wednesday:OFF
Thursday: Max Effort lower
Friday:Upper
Sunday: box jump variation before Strongman workout
Can I get to my full speed potential while just running for only half an hour once a week with strongman? what makes people fast? I heard it takes good strength to bodyweigh ratio and flexibility and you barely even half to run. is this true?

I'm quite surprised this thread has run so long.
We all know the muscular characteristics necessary to improve vertical jumping. When you include the value of mechanical specificity into the equation, the training methods to improve the vertical jump is quite straight forward.
It's worth noting that training only the shoulders (no lower limb training) may still yield up to a 10% improvement in a vertical jump with an arm swing (most sporting applications); so, training should be weighted by majority towards lower limb strength/power development, though should not neglect the shoulder (due to it's contribution to the outcome).

Can't wait for the International tour to begin.
Wallabies v Fiji on Saturday, Barbarians v England on Tuesday, Wallabies v England next week! ... Fortunately I live in Perth so get to see those last two games live.
Sevens IRB on tomorrow night (Fox Sports) following the Wallabies/Fiji match as well ..... gotta love it!
PS: What's with the SAFFA fans and their bloody horns/trumpets? ... The Bulls / Stormers final was out of control!Last edited by Nicolas_Hart; 06-04-2010 at 09:08 PM.

nah I play union. I said league because in some of the tournaments we have they have a "premier league" or "premier division" which are the top flight teams. then there's men's club, then men's social. premier division are the teams made up of Div 1. and Super League guys.

I'm not necessarily saying anything fancy. Personally, I like using a strike move in the 10-12 or 12-13 channel aimed at making the linebreak (for example the blindside winger using 12 as a decoy, springboks did this well twice vs lions, ireland did it vs springboks in the 2009 end of year internationals) or, if you prefer, something moving the ball out wide using dummy runners in the centres to commit defenders.
The semi and final were moved to Orlando Stadium, which is out in the townships. The people who live around there are almost all black people whose preferred sport is soccer (though everyone loves rugby in SA) so the semi- and final attracted soccer crowds.

In their defense, a lot of these guys had little to no 7s experience going into the tournament. The announcement was made in the winter about the tournament, so teams had to balance playing 15s and practicing 7s. There were 2 guys on our team who had never played Rugby until this spring, and I'm pretty sure we only had 3 guys on our team who actually had played on a 7s team before this year.
I know the other teams in the tournament were probably different, but I'm willing to bet a lot of these guys had never played 7s on top of having limited time to prepare for it.★cVc★
