My friend gets up every morning and cranks out 100 push ups and 100 situps first thing, regardless of what else he has planned for the day, weights, cardio, or otherwise. Good or Bad?

it depends - I try and crank out 100 (5x20) dips every morning before I leave the house - some mornings I just stall and stall because I can't get myself started and I end up being late for work. If I wind up getting fired, then yes, doing those dips every morning is bad... other wise they're good. Same with your buddy's regimen.
And I gotta admire your buddy's discipline...

I did 104 in 2 minutes, then turned around and did 101 situps in 2 minutes, then ran a 12:24 2-mile.
I weighed 198, and was in the best endurance shape of my life.
ZFan88 will appreciate that I scored a 361 on my PT test not once, but twice.
I would call 100 in under 90 secs BS...unless your form is completely crappy a.k.a Chicken PeckingSenator: There's a saying, Fletcher: To the victor belongs the spoils.

Well, the max on Army PT test is 300. When they scored to see who would win the Iron-Man award at my NCO training class, they go to the extened scale. 361 was the highest my Training NCO's had ever seen.
It must be hard cranking out that many pushups at your height. I knew guys your height that had a hell of a time because their ROM was longer than most peoples.
I wish I had joined the AF....I just didn't listen to the AF recruiter when he came to my highschool.Senator: There's a saying, Fletcher: To the victor belongs the spoils.

Great for muscular endurance IMO. I think it's a good thing, especially if it does help him with his goals (I know I repeated a few of you, but it bears repeating). I like push-ups myself. I'm 5'6", and when I weighed around 125, I cranked out 93 in 60 sec. Can't do that now though, but I'm working back up to that. I couldn't do much more than that in 2 min anyway, so it's probably about the same as the previous posts.
