is there any reason why a small amount of milk, like 4-8 oz., as part of your pre workout meal or shake is supposedly bad? i could see not doing it before cardio but does it matter before lifting?

um, well it does digest slowly, but it has 2 protein types, whey and casein, casein will slow down the rate at which you can absorb your protein shake. But im not sure if this is true for skim milk, but i think it is.

I want to start having milk in my PWO shake, but the only problem is that I bring my shaker to the gym with me, with my whey and dextrose in it, and then just fill it with water after my workout from the fountain. I can't figure out how to get the milk, and the whey/dextrose to the gym at the same time lol. My next question is this: I currently have 1.5 scoops of whey, 2 tbsp dextrose and a banana PWO, If i were to incorporate milk into my PWO which would I sub it in for?

ok well i wasnt looking to get into a complicated post workout debate just wanted to know if it was ok to have a little milk with my pre workout meal. my question was answered, thanks taffer.

I've heard the reason not to have milk pre-workout is because your body is spending energy to diegest this protien during your workout. Basically you want all the energy you have to focus on lifting or cardio. However, I've never tried milk preworkout, so I don't really know how much of an effect it has on your session. Give it a try, see how you feel.

Whats the deal with everybody pushing skim milk? Whole milk is more nutritionally dense and it contains enzymes that promote fat loss which counters the added fat content. Skim milk is crap in my opinion, most of the good stuff is filtered out with the exception of some protein and carbs. People stress macronutrition and then turn around and promote skim milk, its the white bread of dairy. Here's one article I found on the subject.

You could also wrap an ice pack around it and put a rubber band on or something to keep it attached, if you are worried about it going bad.
Give it a smell before you drink it and if it smells fine then usually it will be okay to drink.

Hey Alan!
I forgot to take my shake with me to the gym one day last week, so I grabbed a litre of "Lacteze" skim milk (i.e. milk w/ added lactase enzymes) from a nearby store and chugged it instead. No, I'm not lactose intolerant - I figured that glycogen would be replenished faster than with regular milk as the lactose is already broken down into glucose and galactose.
Sound reasonable?
Any idea how the GI/II or this stuff compares to regular skim milk?
