This may look a bit funny to some, but it will make sense.
I was buying some vitamins yesterday and saw a 300 x 500mgs bottle of Siberian Ginseng for $10 and figured i might as well try to put to rest in my own mind whether Ginseng is usefull or not.
So as per the instructions i will be taking 3 caps daily, and will be looking for increased energy, decreased stress, increased immune system, and also increase in Libido/sexual effects.
Odds are i'll be taking this back after a few weeks and getting my money back but i thought for $10 it was worth a go.
Right now im in the middle of getting a cold and this stuff doesn't seem to be helping.

I took the bottle of ginseng back yesterday and got a refund.
I used it for 2 weeks, 1 week at regular dose(500 mgs X 3) and 1 at double the dose (1000 X 3) and at no point did i see any effect on anything. I didn't get over my cold any quicker than normal and it didn't seem to help my immune system.
It didn't seem to help with stress or have any effect on stimulants, when taken in conjunction.
No effect on sex drive.
All in all, thumbs down for Siberian Ginseng and i could see no reason for its use.Don't Support Companies that are suing me!!

I remember reading somewhere that you need to take most forms of ginseng for over a month regularly before the positive effects become fully realized. Dunno if there is any truth to it, but remember reading it in some herb book. Anyways, sorry to hear it didn't workout for ya!Sempre Avanti

Yeah, i know it is an adaptagen.
Part of the reason i was trying this out (aside from price) is because i've noticed at times taking something with ginseng in it, and noticing an improvement in libido. I remember when Ginseng first took off 7-8 years ago and my parents friends gave them samples of some they had capped themselves (having grown a crop), taking 2 of those would mean a huge increase in libido. Ive also tried a gingko/ginseng cap a few times and in larger doses this has caused a noticeable increase in "recovery time".
I haven't ruled out ginseng entirely. Just Siberian form.Don't Support Companies that are suing me!!

Right now im more interested in review herbs and such to see if any have uses, all these new creatine and NO mixes don't interest me. I want to be able to rule out (or in) some of the cheaper stuff thats out there that could have uses in our supplement protocol.Don't Support Companies that are suing me!!

Siberian ginseng is CRAP. It isn't even real ginseng, they just call anything that has adaptogenic properties "ginseng".
I use this Red Panax Ginseng tincture sometimes and I love the stuff. I only buy it when I'm under a lot of stress and it always seems to calm me down, help me sleep, and help me deal with things. Quality is definitely an issue when it comes to ginseng.
Try the real ginseng and you will probably be happy with it.

I take Ginkgo Biloba, and it works pretty good for memory, and pretty quickly in my opinion, but if you stop taking it, you will get a horrible headache, which is why I had to stop my workout in the middle today because my head felt like it was going to explode.
...oh yeah, Ginkgo irritates the bowels pretty badlyLast edited by captainJ; 02-10-2005 at 09:47 PM.

I've done quite a bit of research on this stuff. Quality control is a major issue and method of extraction is as well. Steam distillation with polar solvents is necessary. I get this stuff called Herbal Acanthopanax Vitilizing Extract from a company called Elk Haven Herbals. Small company, best stuff out there. I've tried other Siberian Ginseng supplements with little to no results.
