If you ask people how long they've been lifting they'll say something like 5 years, but only 3 years seriously. How does you know if you're training seriously or not?

What constitutes training seriously?
Being all that I can be is simply not good enough. I will be better.
Body building is 40% lifting, 40% diet and 40% sleep. And it's always going to be 120% dedication.
Power lifters eat to help them lift.
Body Builders lift to help them eat.

Bump - it takes time to develop solid eating/sleeping/lifting habits, learn your way around in the gym, make the commitment for excellence, all that good stuff. Once you get your lifting lifestyle in order, that's training pretty seriously.

seriosuly is when u do it on a regular basis, have real goals, work hard, and udnerstand the principles of bbing. U see the kids in the gym that goof off, dont do ****, work out when they feel like it, this is "unserious training" u might say.Being all that I can be is simply not good enough. I will be better.

i think it is a joke to say you are training seriously; i think it is a joke to say that your first year isn't serious becuase you ahve a lot to learn. you are either trianing or you are not training...
if you go to the gym do a set of barbell curls, talk to your friends for 30 minutes, get a drink and do another set and then go home, you are not traning, **** the seriously part. If you are a newb, but you go to the gym, use your best form, take short breaks between sets, and are nutritionaly concious, you are training, **** the seriously.
training is not an inbetween thing you either are or you aren't, and if you are by definition training then its serious, but if you throw some db's around and walk out, your not training.
trainign by definition is soemthing serious
\Train"ing\, n. The act of one who trains; the act or process of exercising, disciplining, etc.; education.
To focus on or aim at (a goal, mark, or target); direct. See Synonyms at aim.
so inmy personal opinion, trainign seriously is not something with an overwhelmign amount of expirence requirements. What it does require is motivation, education and persistence, and please **** the seriously.I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things they fear to do, provided they keep doing them until they get a record of successful experience behind themselves.
