One US Marshal DEAD, police officers wounded in ‘still active’ shooting near Charlott

At least one US Marshal is dead and “numerous” other law enforcement officials have been wounded after gunfire erupted Monday in a suburban neighborhood outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, according to reports.

The shooting broke out just before 2 p.m. when the US Marshals Task Force was working an investigation in the area and one of the subjects opened fire on them, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

“Multiple” officers were hit and taken to the hospital in unknown conditions, CMPD said.

he reported deceased was a deputy US Marshal, according to WSOC-TV, but officials have not yet confirmed the death.

At least two officers were shot in the legs, while another was shot in the chest, the outlet reported, and one of at least two suspects has also been wounded.

Police described the situation as “still active” and advised people to avoid the area, while reports suggest the suspects have barricaded themselves inside a house.

“This is an active investigation, if you are in the area, please remain in your residence or steer clear of the scene,” CMPD said.

SWAT teams from the department have been dispatched to the scene, cops said, while numerous roads in the area have been closed to allow law enforcement vehicles in and out.
