Tbh I think its good that they’re protesting it but the chit that they chant, signs, etc is wrong…river to the sea bs
Like yea Israel is doing foul chit, but the complete eradication of Israel is not the solution
I hope they’re doing homework or studying in those tents and still attending classes…I didnt even have time to keep up with my classwork, practice, and party, so I stopped football - I figured i’m not going to go to the nfl so fuk it

I know it sounds crazy but pro-Palestinian groups have been infiltrating student governments on college campuses for the last 20-30 years. Especially in California in the UC system. I didn’t know they reached into USC.
Back when I was in college I just thought these Student Elections for positions like student president were just popularity contests to build your resume. But I eventually learned that they are actually very political. Pro Palestinian groups have been funding and running students to push their agenda in college campuses for decades. They are actually very organized and very motivated to push their agenda, specifically on college and UC campuses.
Once they get someone elected, they start pushing for the school to divest from anything made from Israel, recognize Palestine as a state etc .
Eventually the school chancellor overrides everything they vote for in the student body, but they get to generate a lot of headlines in the processLast edited by Bigbuster1; 04-28-2024 at 08:51 AM.

That is very odd, indeed!
I know! I can remember this exactly time, 30 years ago, that I was crashing for finals and finishing up group projects (somehow I was always the one who did most of the project!). I didn't have time to sleep, much less protest! But maybe the ones protesting are majoring in basket weaving.
If they didn't have oil someone would have dropped a nuclear bomb on the Middle East given what a disaster that place is.
Of course they need to bring out my family and FWB before the drop the bomb. I have no idea in a million years why they want to be there. I won't even fly into a Middle Eastern airport to change planes. I went the other way around the world.
I had the chance to go from Gibraltar to Morocco but I wouldn't do that as a solo female traveler.
I don't remember that in the UC system 30 years ago, but I wasn't involved in student government.

Here’s an article from 2015 talking about how there has been pro Palestinian student government groups since 2010. So maybe the time line is closer to 10-20 years instead of 20-30 years

Hmmm, interesting. Yeah I feel like I went to college in a different world as we all talk about how the 90s were so amazing on here. It was awesome as we didn't have cell phone so we actually talked and made friends before class when we waited for the other class to finish. Then I returned to college in 2004 for my Masters and everyone was on talking their phones, and that was before the iPhone!
I don't understand why such liberal California people are pro-Palestine as if our country became Muslim they wouldn't be able to have their LGBTQ and women's rights!!!!!!

Like mentioned, many of them are not there to protest israel. It's like the movie Fight Club. People bored with their meaningless repetitive lives, looking for something bigger to be a part of in order to feel alive. The quality of life in America has degraded so much from biden and the democrats that people have a million different reasons to want to riot. That's why when media asks individual people what they're protesting, most don't even have an answer. They're just frustrated about everything. Housing too expensive, food too expensive. Illegals pouring across the border. Tax money being sent to ukraine/israel. Plus it's just a social event for a lot of people. It's where the action is. You can sit in your dorm-room behind a screen, or go to the riots and interact with people face to face. The media puts a label on it to get more attention and views, but it seems like it's just a lot of people pissed off for a lot of reasons looking for a outlet for all the frustrated energy.
I'm not supporting this btw, and I'd prefer the media stopped giving it so much attention.

You're right. I've forgotten about the BLM times as that was 4 years ago, but it was the same as people wanted to get outside with the lockdowns.
I recall there were Occupy Wall Street protests during the Great Recession.
Of course the media is giving this too much attention, just like they did with Chaz or whatever the name was for that place in Seattle with the tents and music.

Apparently protestors are starting to worry about how this will affect their future. Guess it's not that important to them if they're not willing to deal with the fallout.

You know, I have a question. The international community is quite vocal in its condemnation of Israel but why can't Red Cross/Red Crescent be sent to Gaza to ensure the health and wellbeing of the hostages?
