Pope Blasts American Catholics for Putting Political Ideology Above Faith
Pope Francis has criticized the "backwardness" of some conservatives in the United States Catholic Church, saying they have replaced faith with political ideology.
Francis made the comments during a private meeting on August 5 in Lisbon with members of the Jesuit religious order, of which he is a member, during his trip for World Youth Day. They were published on Monday by the Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica, which is vetted by the Vatican secretariat of state.
The remarks are an acknowledgment of divisions in the U.S. Catholic Church where conservatives had long found support on issues of abortion and same-sex marriage in the papacies of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
Conservative Catholics in the U.S. have also blasted Francis' emphasis on social justice issues such as the environment and the poor, and his calls for the church to be more welcoming and less judgmental towards some, including the LGBTQ+ community.
Any thoughts on this since most here, love them some politics........?
I have witnessed a bunch of religious hypocrisy since 2017.

They don't charge per word here on bb.com, lol.
It is free.
I will say that i began attending a church maybe 2 months ago and it seems like long term religious people are going through the motions there.
You only find a hand full that you can tell are passionate and when you shake their hands, you feel something.
When you are new and listen to the messages/readings they teach you a way of looking at others that is more based in kindness with less division.
Perhaps that is just at Jesuit churches like the one that i have been attending.
Either way i am still learning and it makes sense what he says(pope) and is true in some "religious in name only" folks that i have met.
i walk away thinking, that isn't very "Jesus like behavior"Last edited by x-trainer ben; 08-28-2023 at 08:40 AM.

The pope saying conservative Catholics in America have abounded faith for political ideology is perhaps the most hypocritical/gaslighting statement I’ve ever seen. He is 100% using his position to push political ideologies over pushing Catholic faith. He preaches against capitalism. Promotes immigration into western countries from poor places all over the world. He uses his position to push the “manmade climate change” narrative. He encourages integration of LGBTQ into society and acceptance of it. He even said that all people will go to heaven regardless of belief. And I’m not even saying I disagree with that statement, but it is not a Catholic teaching and certainly not one that the pope would be saying if he followed the teachings of the Bible.+positive crew+

So it is this *particular man* that you disagree with?
Is he the opposite of what you grew up with?
i mean didn't they all let some scandals go that they should have fixed earlier, and does all of religion get FLUSHED because of them?
so what would the conservative catholic teaching look like? There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Some things he says I agree with and some things I don’t. My statement wasn’t about what I do or don’t agree with, my statement was about his hypocrisy with regards to preferring politics over faith. He does the same thing, and he does not preach Christian teachings.
During the meeting Scalfari asked the pope where “bad souls” go, to which he was quoted as responding: “They are not punished. Those who repent obtain God’s forgiveness and take their place among the ranks of those who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot be forgiven disappear. A hell doesn’t exist, the disappearance of sinning souls exists.”
The boy made sure to inform the Pope that his father, though wanting his children to be baptized, was himself an atheist.
So what to say to this boy mourning his father and asking for information on his eternal destiny? Here is the answer given by Pope Francis:
“God has the heart of a father, your father was a good man, he is in heaven with Him, be sure. God has a father’s heart and, would God ever abandon a non-believing father who baptizes his children?
So when it comes to actual biblical teachings he just says whatever he wants, and when it comes to social or political issues he pretty much always pushes the leftists views, again like anti-capitalism, pro mass immigration, talks about how much racism is in the world, promotes inclusion of LGBTQ(and has been mentioned ran cover for actual monstrous pee doughs), talks about how the west must fight climate change(but for some reason never mentions China or India), and on and on and on.+positive crew+

You should try some other churches, a church is a body of people and they say "birds of a feather flock together", some churches are alive with revival and the power of the spirit and amazing inspiring people. I've met truly amazing people with astonishing stories.
Some, are places full of stale people who go on Sunday because of habit: because they are "church goers" because that's what they have always done and they go because they feel obligated and it's a Sunday thing they should do.
I'm not suggesting you serial church hop always looking for something more extreme. Local community (and serving is a part too). But there isn't a shortage of spirit driven people if you look and are open minded about church and denomination, surely the criteria is a church where God is present and at work. That's not necessarily the one you assumed it would be.
Open your eyes and see where your journey calls you, it doesn't sound to me like you've found the right place yet.

Yeah that's clearly not a Bible based response. A Pope is chosen by the people, there's no prophecy endowed into him. If it was someone like John the Baptist who is a chosen Prophet, then you listen.
I'm a born again Baptist and our Preacher has buried several of our family that were die hard anti religion, he says "only God knows what's in your heart at the end."
You can believe whatever you want, but I'm certain that as you take your last few breaths and you call out to to God for forgiveness and acceptance, he will reel you into the kingdom of Heaven. Or you can go down on your principles, lmk how that goes.
I've been to so many churches and a lot of them are very stale, but I always love that old church organ lady.
My favorite was a Black Apostolic Church, people speaking in tounges, crazy dancing, Holy Spirit alive and well. Service could go for 1 hour, could go 4 hours, wasn't a day of rest at all.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I enjoyed the creepy organ music.
I was very happy to go the church my wife wanted to get married at because they were against "confessing to other sinners" e.g. priest, and were against the Catholic belief of "works and prayers get one to heaven". In our bible studies we tried to search for things saying one needed to do this, which we didn't find.
The leader of the Men's study freaked out one Sunday when they changed the music from the organ and traditional hymes to the youth playing a band, he let his poor wife go inside by herself and he acted like a fuking little chit about it and sat outside. What do you expect, he's human, an idiot!!! He would constantly talk about how he always upsets someone, then insults someone again and again.
I actually liked that church because there was drama there, not everyone painting themselves as saints. But I lost interest in dealing with alot of it. I went when more the economy went to crap in like 2009.
I've known a few old people during their deaths saying they died and saw this and that and want to die and go there. They were not church goers but always said they believed.
Yeah, the church has fuked up some people for sure, and so has that "military".Authentic Knights Swing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wrists of Steel!

For those that dislike the pope, is it this particular pope, like 1 member said, or is it the institution from which he comes from and works in?

I live in a valley with very little radio reception but for some reason we get this Catholic station loud and clear. I listen from time to time, I have nothing against members of the Catholic faith. I would say 4 hours a day they are doing the rosary or Hail Mary (?) chants and the rest of the time speaking out against abortion.
The only birth control you're allowed to use as a Catholic is the "rhythm method." Can't pull out, can't use a rubber or the pill, can't swallow etc.
I'm against abortion, but FFS if you take a simple Biology, Health or Sex Ed class in 9th grade you know to vulcananise your tool, unless you a fool.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

One of these, my religion is good, yours is bad posts...
Most religions have one thing in common, people worshipping an imaginary god because they are scared sh!tless of reality and cling to hope of life after death.
If you need a god to be a good person, you are not a good person to begin with.
Party on fukkers.

No not really. While I absolutely disagree/appalled with the main Catholic Church's handling of child protection issues and I don't share all their theology nor do I think the Pope is some principal representative of St Peter or Jesus or whatever on Earth.
But I'm in no way starting a they're wrong I'm right battle.
There's a lot of very good people with sincere views who do a lot of social work (far more than I do) in the Catholic church, so I'm careful not to criticise the church in general, even though I don't support the Vatican (although it's an impressive place to visit as a tourist if you ever get the chance)
If anything is bordering on a they're wrong I'm right comment, you're post above is straying in that direction 🤣

I think there is SOME truth to what he's saying. In particular all sin is equal and that *******s should be allowed in church (they need to) and should be welcomed.
HOW FUKKING EVER :
You don't get to PROMOTE sin in the church. When they start promoting being gay or making it about being gay is when it crosses the line because you're promoting sin.
I do see a lot of hate and anti Christian rhetoric from American Christians. Which is the opposite of what Christ told us to do. To include hating darkies and what not.

Words from our “know it all”.
After meeting plenty of people who go to church, they don’t do it for this “good person” reward thing you speak of.
Of course explaining it to you is 100 percent a waste of time.
You actually remind me of our bible study leader, the guy who refused to go into church because the music was not traditional. In meetings he would cover his ears when someone wanted to explain something he felt was “satans work” within the church. He is a piece of work. Except he would admit those faults, unlike you, but he would just continue them the next time I saw him, it was a continuous cycle with him .
As for me, I know the muscle feeds itself but I also don’t cling to the same mindset for decades regarding training, that’s how you stop progress. Failures of an experiment could work with adjustments years down the road. I don’t claim to know all, but I experiment in training. In life I’m not good at all, I don’t think humanity is capable of being good either.Authentic Knights Swing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wrists of Steel!

Reading comprehension much?
I never once mentioned church.. I said god
You never mentioned god once but church several times..
Get off you're soap box shorty, if you are what is supposed to be a christian no wonder religions are in such a mess
Shocker... Many people believe in god and never go to church.
Most churches are full of hypocrites.. You just proved that point.
After reading your off topic diatribe, perhaps you should put down your Buybull book and pick up this one.

Oh please, keep wasting time here.
Church = god. People go to church to worship god, that’s exactly why that guy went to church, he believes in god, Jesus to be precise.
As for your Christian comment to me. I don’t claim to be anything. I’m sure there are some who have gave up all pleasure in life to help others, that ain’t me and it sure as chit ain’t YOU, you obviously look after YOURSELF and think of YOURSELF regardless of any volunteer “work”, your posts are obvious.
