I asked for advice from a personal trainer on how to train, and one piece of advice they gave me was to go light & high reps on squats & leg day. He said the reason is because the lower body is composed & made up of slow twitch muscle fibers which grow from light weight & high reps. Is this true because I've always been told to squat heavy & that's how I've always done it with good strength results, but not crazy size gains. Should I take his advice & go light, or keep hount heavy?

Ever see a sprinter's legs? Tell me that are predominantly slow-twitch fibers...

--The proper plural form of the Latin adjective biceps is bicipites, a form not in general English use. Instead, biceps is used in both singular and plural (i.e., when referring to both arms). The form bicep [sic], although common even in professional contexts, is considered incorrect. (from Wikipedia)

After my compounds I like to cool off with 10-12 low wight squats, like 135-155lbs. I do the same with bench, I'll do my 5x5s and then drop it to 135 and do a couple sets of 10-12, just to burn myself out. Though lately I just burn out on dips instead of bench at the end of my sessions, I love that stretch I get way too much to give it up. That good, nice long muscle stretch when you dip is like crack, it's addicting.

Don't get advice from this person any more.
PS: You can do both. Whatever you do, heavy back squats should be part of it.
And at 17 years old, you cna't have "always" done anything long enough to really matter or know, most likely. And you probably aren't eating enough.
Depends what you consider heavy. I think most don't consider 10 RM to be "heavy"
