HBO's Westworld Season One Discussion Thread-with spoilers

so much hnnnng for a first episode. they didnt mess around trying to set a tone or anything weak like that. straight to intense feels. can not wait for more

I'm not convinced the guy in black is a newcomer. Ya he can't be killed by the hosts but neither could the malfunctioning host at the end. I've got the feeling he's the first host to achieve sentience and memory. Maybe he's been reprogrammed by Hopkins or maybe he escaped that holding place where all the malfunctioned hosts are stored? If I remember right, he said something along the lines of "it's good to be back." Makes it seem like he's been forced away from the world, and he just now figured a way to get back. It could just be that he's some rich guy trying to find the "new level," but I doubt it.

Also, that symbol looked like a maze to me. I didn't get a good look at it though, and I can't find a pic of it yet.

Loved episode one. I'm tempted to let the season build up and then binge it though. I was left wanting a lot, lot more. Watching it weekly will be brutal

I thought I heard, "It's good to be bad" and kinda cringed at the line. I'm on board for the series, curious to see how the accessing deleted builds will pan out (obviously not good so far).

I would def watch the film! I can tell they're taking it in another direction with this series and the film won't give away anything you haven't already gathered from episode 1

First ep brought good numbers in terms of ratings, 3.3 millions highest debut since True Detective(had the same figures)

Just watched it today and god damn this show looks good. Kind of wish this show would have flew under my radar for a year or so, so I could just binge watch it all at once. Waiting a week between episodes is gonna be brutal for this show mayne.

Sorry to some of you who had this theory, but the man in black is human, not a host. Upon my rewatch after the credits one of the producers talked about the scene where he squares off against Teddy, and how you were led to believe Teddy is human and the MiB is a host, but they switched it from the movie and he calls the MiB human.

also, when he was grabbing delores, didnt he say something like " I paid good money for this"? thats not something a host would say.

but why wouldnt they be tracking what the humans are doing inside the park? how is he able to just do whatever he wants

no not illegal but scalping the guy to find that pattern doesnt seem like a "normal" day in the park. hes trying to go deeper and why would they want anyone doing that?

great first episode, very interested to see what happens.

has a very mysterious feel to it like season 1 of Wayward Pines, can't wait for the imminent rebellion.

I kind of understand everything happening right now, the only thing I'm unsure of is, is whether Delores is 100% conscious and is just pretending to be A.I. so she doesn't get caught out as she most likely has some sort of plan going on.. I'm guessing the big name hosts like Delories, Teddy, Thandie Newton are all conscious and a part of some rebel group of 'aware' hosts who are secretly working to find an escape or something.

Dolores and her dad with 10/10 acting. Going from showing a lot of emotion to being robotic was great.

So episode 2 (will put spoiler tags until it actually airs on sunday)
First of all Hopkins was GOAT not that i expect less from him but you can see the difference between him and the other actors (except Harris)
Every second he was on the screen was a delight

2nd Ed Harris is a superb villian(?) best character on the show by far

3rd The music was spot on

The last sentance by Hopkins "something i'm working on for quite some time, something original" maybe not only he knows about the recent "glitches"
but he planned them and he wanted the hosts to have memories and behave the way they do ATM
And i LOLed when he rejected the storyline and asked for the boots

The newcomers gave a nice perspective between someone new and someone with experience in the park that knows that he can do whatever he wants

The twist with Ed Harris and the girl was nice like unlocking a secret in a game

The flashback with Maeve and the indians HOLYPHUK on everything the direction the music the tense. didn't understand the part in the end with Harris maybe her past "memories" are being scrambled together?

Overall i really enjoyed the episode

I'm gonna say one of those two young guys who the show flashes back to are Ed Harris 30 years before.

Likely Ed Harris was the younger guy in the black hat who is shown as already being a bit evil back then, and already way into Westworld.

But better yet would be if the young innocent man in the white hat was the young Ed Harris, and we find out something that happened along the way to turn him from the nice guy into the black hat wearing, robot raping, game obsessed person he is now.

I don't think that there are multiple timelines (except for the flashbacks)
And the new guys are just that new guys (well seems like only one of them is new)

Cool series so far.

I'm wondering if Ed Harris (the man in black) was the person involved in Host/human altercation 30 years ago. Maybe he was attacked and almost killed by the hosts and now he's back to figure out how it could have happened. Just a theory on my part. But I did enjoy these two first episodes.

Will keep watching.
