Every time I try to eat enough to put on weight my parents give me these long lectures on how I can bulk with only 2,000 calories a day and apparently my dad did it that way...but Im pretty sure he's lying about that.
Is it impossible to gain muscle below maintenance calories? And...
Should I just wait until I start at my new job and buy my own good to lift again?

How do they know how many calories you're eating? Just eat what you want to eat and don't discuss the calories with them.
You can't help the hopeless.

i always get the feeling with these posts that the kids are real obsessive over this stuff and the parents want them to just be reasonable. either that or they really don't understand what it is your trying to do.
but i'm pretty sure there's a reasonable way of asking for 2nds during dinner, or eating a sandwich between meals without needing to give them a powerpoint presentation on what your macros and TDEE and your progression of body weight to strength gained etc.
it's another reason why teenagers shouldn't worry too much about calories or even bulking or cutting and stuff: parents sometimes don't quite understand, or they understand completely that the kid is being too obsessive about stuff that's not important or healthy.
focus on lifting weights and playing sports and being active. eat an extra sandwich or two a day with a glass of milk and you're probably in good shape.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Yeah if you eat the entire fridge contents I get why your parents would want to stop you. Just eat a small surplus, your parents won't even notice and it will be enough to gain weight.

Will your parents spank you if you eat more than 2000 kcal?

Why are your parents Nazis?
Go buy some oatmeal and bananas.Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. They're primarily concerned with pushing their products. Not your safety or what's best for you.

I can't believe any sensible parent would keep an active (assuming male) 17 year old at 2000 calories a day unless there was a serious financial issue as this would be close to child abuse.

Yeah its a financial issue because my parents have so many kids and I dont want to eat any extra food that they dont want me to. Also, for everyone who said something about my parents counting my calories, just stop. I counted my calories daily for an entire week and got between 1,800 and 2,200/daily. Lastly, I start orientation for my job is in about a week so it'll be closer to a month before I get a paycheck and I was just wondering if it would be better for my noob gains to stop lifting until I can start eating.

Ok, so your parents aren't stopping you from bulking. You choose to not eat as much so as to ration out food for the rest of the family.
I realize that's a lot for a thread title, but probably should have said that in the first place.
You should keep lifting no matter what; your "noob gains" will be lost if you stop and you'll be right back to square one. Just try not to go on too many 10 mile runs.I'm an introvert trying to be an extrovert.
