The AD tried to sell me a DJ41 with fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, rhodium dial (perfect watch) but fuking diamond indices. I actually loved the rest of the watch, so I ended up buying one with a wimbledon dial from eBay shortly afterwards (srs) but the ADs aren't going to sell you the good datejusts generally, they will try to sling you the chit they can't give away

Jelly of the people who get offered desirable datejusts. I show up to the AD and can't even suck their dick for anything decent so I don't even try (srs) grey market for life

He said “long lasting”, which I think deserves a little bit of elaboration. 10-15k may be his benchmark for when a watch is worth being an heirloom or something. People set those all over the place depending on where they are financially. Personally, my benchmark is much lower.

Years ago, my dad gave me two watches that belonged to his dad.

One was a gold 1950s hooded lug Seamaster. It's worth roughly $8k right now, runs fantastic, and will be passed to my son one day.

The other was a stainless 1950s Gruen automatic watch. It's worth roughly $300 right now. It runs fantastic after service and will be passed to my son one day.

Unless you're buying truly crappy quartz watches or stuff with cheap plating that's going to wear off, almost anything can be an heirloom.

My grandfather’s Seiko 5 is probably worth less than $100. Great heirloom though, and it started ticking immediately when I held it, even though he died 25 years ago.

I couldn’t disagree more on Rolex. And I think seeing watches based on whether or not they belong to certain houses is myopic, as the specific model often matters just as much as the company that made it imo. I’d take an F.P. Journe Tourbillo.n over a Patek Calatrava anyday.

are you crazy??? alot of people hate my mentality on lux. watches..... but if you are willing to spend $2k+ on a watch ,then you can spend atleast $10k to $15k on a long lasting piece

I hear you on the beach. I took a dress watch with me while on vacation, and it was a waste to even bring it. It put me firmly into dive watch mode in terms of my next watch. If I took more vacations, or lived near a beach, I’d probably only have divers.

lol interesting. I wonder if this will be the longstanding sentiment. I remember crucifying the ALange Odysseus when that came out but it definitely grew on me. I like it as a patek offering because they don't have a single non-sports casual watch outside of the weekly calendar. But absolutely giving "field watch" vibes. Also pretty sure msrp is just over 30k unless i'm mistaken.

Late in response but yeah. Not saying i dont like it, it just almost looks like a direct copy of a few things Hamilton makes. The hands even match closely.

I like their designs. And their micro-rotor movement is something that lots of people are genuinely curious about. I think serviceability is the only unknown.

Also, just saw enforcer just said his watch is one you manually wind. Is that pretty common on the watches y'all wear? Seems kinda tedious to me although I am sure it is a far more complicated movement than most others. Looks like a nice watch regardless.

Getting cucked by IT so not sheriff which watch it is. But the only manual wind i have is a speedy....but it's obvious the "why" behind the manual wind. It has no real complications so it isnt a pain to wind/set when i wear it.
