IRL, i've known JN92 for the past 8-9 years, and we've been very good friends for the past 5. I was the first person he told when he decided he was leaving the Misc, and I understood why he did it. Afterall, I was the one who introduced him to this forum.
Anyway, long story short, he has a close family relative who is on the Board of an Oil & Gas company and yesterday he got interviewed by him, and introduced to some top dogs and networked with some very big names (VPs, head of commodities, chief economists, M&A Execs, etc, at all the top O&G firms/Investment Banks) at an international conference.
He already had a job lined up of ~$60K in the UK (including a secondary source of income from a part-time tutoring job), and he makes ~$15K a year from playing semi-prof poker.
Assuming he maintains the same level of poker, combined with the international petroleum engineering role, he will take home $160,000 tax free (middle-east).
Believe it or not, JNoble92 never really cared about the money. He had this wonderful phrase that he wrote himself as a philosophy of life:
"The biggest fear a man should ever have is God. And if he doesn't believe in God, then his biggest fear should be not meeting his own potential."
Another time, he told me a short story about this kid who approached him one day when he was purchasing food from an outlet. The kid came up to him and said, "I'm 16 and homeless, can I have some money please?" JN replied, "No, but I can give you some advice instead." Kid probably bertstared hard, but he listened intently. JNoble92 went on to say:
"If you figure out the streets; you'll figure out life."
I never understood why he was so sure he would make it in life despite never applying for jobs. I literally can't remember him sending a single CV to anybody. He always replied, "It's because i've figured out the streets." And only now do I understand that all along it meant that he is adaptable, a hungry lion, somebody who knows how to talk, grind, hustle, and ultimately make it in life. He did it through smart, efficient, networking rather than long-tedious application processes. He really did live a life of continuous improvement.
The misc hated too much, and gave credit to *******s like Ibby1995 who they think are making it because he was autistic but now actually has 14.5 inch arms. The misc will always be haters, but real alphas like JNoble92 brush them aside and leave them behind.
I leave you with one final message, and i'd personally like to thank this man for revolutionizing meeting IRL on the misc:
The forum misc was the hero that JNoble92 deserved; but not the one he needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because misc is not our hero. It's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.
Upon asking JNoble92 when he will return to the misc, if ever. His reply was delayed, but eventually he said:
"Once i've brought and insured a Brand New Nissan GTR; regardless of whether that's here in London, or there in the desert."
Good night Misc. Hope your A-class hatchback hate helps you to sleep tonight.

So what you're saying is that he's gotten an engineering job with no prior experience, getting paid way more than any other engineer with no prior experience would have, because his family member is on the board. But he believes this is because "he's figured out the streets", not because of nepotism?
Kind of sounds like a huge douchebag to me tbh

First sentence is a lie, you met him through the misc when you were the only miscer who turned up for his bday. Therefore the rest of the post is probably lies too.

OP is secretly discrediting this person, by telling us how he leaches off his family to get into positions with no knowledge, experience or education. People who get these positions without putting any effort in are very fortunate to have families who have busted their nuts.

He wouldn't have got an Engineering job with no prior experience, i'm sure his role will be commercial in commodities trading of the crude/LNG product, which he does have prior experience in.
That said, I don't know how much junior petroleum engineers get paid in the middle east, could well be 145k... he does have a masters degree in chemical engineering and has done 2 big industrial projects, after all
