Not quite, the entire reason why the US got entangled in WW2 was because of money and power. They already were fighting a passive war long before Pearl Harbor, supplying the Brits and Russians with enormous amounts of financial aid and military equipment, Roosevelt couldn't wait to get in on the action. Gaining control over Western Europe would have been important to their interests.

The Americans for the most part rolled the Japanese Islands however the invasion of Manchuria by the USSR after the fall of Berlin COMBINED with the dropping of the atomic bombs convinced Japan to surrender. Had the USSR not invaded Manchuria then it is much more probable that America would have had to invade the home island

This is true, strangely enough not a single phuck was given by the Japanese after the atomic bombs had been dropped, it was the Russian threat of invading the mainland that convinced them to surrender.

My 2 cents:

Overall, Russia was involved longer in WWII and the Russians did a majority of the ground combat in WWII, there is no questioning that. They contributed far more than any other Allied country with ground forces and had the largest land force on Earth. After the United States joined the war, the morale of the allied forces changed. The US had a different role to play by sourcing the Russians with resources, providing naval and air support by hitting key military targets. By late in the war, the remaining allied countries, with the exception of the US and Russia, were too fatigued to be of much help from bearing the burden of the early war efforts.

But together, the Soviets and US worked well together. The US ground forces were likely more tactical and had better weaponry/tanks/equipment, but that doesn't mean much when in sheer volume and numbers the Russians outnumbered US support like 15 or 20 to 1 (maybe even more). The US air force was critical at keeping the German air force at bay and bombing targets to clear the path for the Soviets and US forces that were on the ground.
