That's one of my favorite parts about it Ron. It's getting work in, but you're outside enjoying the sights and having so much fun it doesn't even feel like much work at times.
Thanks Payton. I usually try for under a 15 minute pace, so this was even a tad slow for me. I don't run with the weight, I just walk with a purpose. I know when I first started this block of training to now, despite no running at all, I shaved my two mile timed run about 30 seconds. I plan on doing more dedicated running this block though.
So far, so good Trent.

Good looking sessions Grouchy. I love the running > burpees. I was thinking, "OK, a nice trail run.. Oh! All pleasantries just exited the building when that was done!"

I'm not a big fan of either, so that means I'm not good at them. So, the goal is to get better
Haha they sure do! Honestly I hate burpees (I prefer eight count bodybuilders) but every event I've done has them now so I guess I'd better get good at them. Last event we did 30 as a finisher and it honestly wasn't bad at all for me, but I'm normally not good at them so I'd like to get better.
Thanks Trent! "All pleasantries just exited the building," that cracked me up. I saw my run increase from rucking, so I bet there's a similar effect so I decided to devote one day a week to running of some kind. The burpees will help me get some more work capacity in there too, so I figured it's a nice win-win.

20170719:
TB Grunt cluster, though had to cut it short as we had some company over. Got the presses (OHP 85x6/6/12) and front squats (125x6/6/9) in before they showed up. Pool party for my kids with their friends, hung out with their parents who are friends of ours, pool beers and grilling dogs. By the time they left I briefly considered fitting in the pull-ups and swings but being that I had a 0300 wake up call the next day for more PT, I decided to just turn in for the night instead and save it for the next day.
20170720:
My discipline faltered a bit. I decided to push the wake up time to 0330 instead of 0300, reasoning I would just hit the ground a bit quicker this time. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, so I only ended up rucking 3 miles before I fit in my ruck PT. 3x20 of ruck push-ups, ruck overhead squats, ruck lunges, and ruck man makers (60 sec rest between sets and circuits). Bodyweight core circuit in the evening.

I need to retrain myself to get up early to workout cause I come up with all types of excuses in the evenings plus our garage gym is about 98F which melts all ambition on doing anything!

CPW - I'm usually up at 0400 most days for work so it was just setting the alarm a bit earlier than usual. Had some friends over and went to bed a bit later than usual so thought I could risk it. Nope haha.
It was hard for me at first DM but I love exercising early now. Even if the rest of the day is chaotic and miserable, I at least feel productive from getting my workout in.
Trust me Ron, I'd be sleeping in more if I could! Early workouts are the only way I can make it work most days.
20170722:
6 mile ruck on a local trail (average pace 17:14 but didn't stop timer when I hit the tree line twice and had to get rocks out of my boots once) then shot home and did ruck PT at home.
5 rounds of the following for time (I finished in 20 minutes):
**10 ruck man makers
https://youtu.be/9pNgSmfdkxE
**10 four count flutterkicks with ruck overhead
**10 ruck push ups
**10 ruck sit ups with ruck on chest

Great work going on the last few days Grouchy! Man, you are slacking off. Hitting snooze until 3:30AM? Shoot, if I wake up at 3:30AM it's because I couldn't sleep. So do you do all of these rucks in the dark?

By necessity they tend to be, usually finishing before dawn breaks for the majority of my workouts. My long ruck workouts I can do at different times as my wife can occasionally join me.
20170724:
TB Grunt cluster. Late getting to gym so I only did presses and front squats there. Will update with pull-ups and swings later.

Nice work Grouchy. So do you have a light or something like that? I'm just picturing you rucking down trails in the woods at night. It seems like it would be hard to see, and if you were around here, you would want to be able to see the snakes too. Just curious, because I would love to start doing some cardio in the mornings. The need to wear glasses is what keep me from doing it right now.

Anybody can do it DM. As my man Jocko says "Get after it, here and now." The weights aren't going to lift themselves, our shoes aren't going to run for us, and our ovens aren't going to cook the right foods for us. It's up to us, and the best time to start is now.
20170725:
Nice and easy 2 mile run (22:33) followed by 50 burpees for time (5:55). Keeping these runs comfortable and fun, not killing myself like I do for APFT attempts.

Nice job on the run and burpees grouchy! Jocko makes some good points in that video. That was one thing that I read in a book (probably a Navy SEAL book) a few years ago that really stuck with me. I'm extremely analytical so I always tended to be really indecisive. Finally, in this book I read that it is better to just make a decision, especially on things that aren't that important. Like, where are we going to eat lunch? There's a place. Let's go, etc. Feel free to analyze important decisions, but even those require you to draw a line and make a decision after enough time has elapsed. I know he was talking more about getting motivated to start working out or taking on a big project, but it is relatively similar in nature. You do just have to jump in at some point.

The podcast of his I was just listening to this morning discussed decision fatigue and his thoughts on it. He's intense and great to listen to, highly recommend him.
20170726:
4 mile ruck around the neighborhood followed by some ruck PT. 40 ruck man makers, 40 ruck push-ups, 40 ruck overhead squats, 40 lunges with ruck on back. 60 sec rest between sets/exercises.

Pathfinder Class 012 comes to a close and I finished the starting level course Forward. Here is going to be my totals for 05/01 to 07/31 (tomorrow).
**29/20 workouts (10 have to be ruck workouts, I have 18)
**103/75 rucking miles (less than I wanted, but still enough - counting run mileage, 116 total)
**4/4 challenges (pass Army Physical Fitness Test, 8 mile mountain ruck, 12 mile timed ruck, and finished a GORUCK event)
Starting 013 next week, this time Endure (the intermediate course). This time it's 24 workouts (12 ruck), 125 miles, and 5 challenges. Still following the same template I shared earlier (essentially - lift, run + calisthenics, lift, ruck + ruck PT, rest, long ruck day, rest). Definitely a fun thing to follow along if you like rucking and want to focus on it, and works beautifully with Tactical Barbell's Green protocol for conditioning. Green has been treating me well, big fan of it.

Great job improvising with the treadmill run Grouchy. Running 5 miles on a treadmill shows dedication, no matter what the time is. The new program looks good. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks Trent! Trying to get my running back up to par.
20170731:
TB Grunt cluster before work.
**OHP 100 x6/6/9.
**Pull Ups BW x10/5/5.
**FSQ 140 x6/6/9.
**2HSW with 28kg - Skipping these today. Lower back got aggravated slightly at work so rest and mobility work.
Had to switch up the order a bit as the squat rack was being used but no big deal.Last edited by grouchyjarhead; 07-31-2017 at 03:09 PM.
