    noobie question: protein

    My 15 yo has been attending the weight room at school for the last year and works out at home as well.
    He is a Rugby Prop and has a good chance of making his College's 1st XV squad a year early. Therefore, he wants to get bigger.

    He is 5'10 and 185lbs. is big in the chest and shoulders already for his age.

    I have whey isolate at home and usually have a shake after a workout (kayaking or rowing, I don't lift) and he has been using this also for the last few weeks. I decided to get him some product of his own and purchased; hydrolised whey, creatin and casein. He will use the casein in a night time shake.

    questions; what is the best order to take the whey and creatin during the day? he works out after school in the afternoon.

    eg whey shake in the morning at breakfast and creatin post -workout?
    OR whey shake and creatin together post workout?
    OR creatin in the morning and whey shake post work out?
    OR whey shake pre-workout and creatin post workout?

    Creatine isn't a protein, and can he taken any time during the day. Once your muscles are saturated with creatine, only 5g a day is needed to keep them saturated.
    Whey protein is best to be taken post workout, as your body is in a state where it needs nutrients, and is prime time to feed in a fast digesting protein (whey). Hope this helps!

    Creatine, I generally throw in my post workout whey shake but like bwillems said, it doesn't matter when you take it. The opposite is for protein, timing is EVERYTHING since whey digests extremely fast.

    Timing of protein is irrelevant in a natural athlete.
    Make sure he is eating .8 grams per pound. More won't hurt.

    There is no "best order to take whey"


    Protein is protein. Unless you're a highly active athlete doing copious amounts of cardiovascular activity, stop worrying about protein timing.

    Whey protein after his workout, creatine anytime of the day( it literally doesn't matter, try to take same time daily but still doesn't matter) casein at night time.
