My friend says to hit it behind the ear to break its neck. Doesn't sound effective...any ideas?

LOL. Who remembers the thread with the guy who was completely serious when he said he would just pick it up and spin around and throw it? Then he was trying to defend himself, hilarious.

I'd start running, then turn around and yell "GET BACK!" and then kick it in the face.

when it rushes you, have your coat wrapped around your arm, and offer it in front of you, the dog should go for it.. When he bites, pull it towards yourself then FALL on top of the dog.. THe next bit is quite horrible, but the only way to stop is to pluck its eyes out with your thumb :/
i have never been attacked by a dog btw so i will probably end up with my balls ripped off

Grab it's front legs and pull them apart. This will rip the lungs I'm lead to believe.
Or grab it's back legs and spin it round. This will disorientate the dog, and make it collapse.
If you get the chance, stick your arm down it's throat and rip it's internal organs out.
Or do the simplest thing, and get a Pyrenean Mountain Dog!!!

You fools make it sound as the dog will let you grab it.He will bite your hand to pieces you will be in to much pain.

Pits have thick necks so trying to break the spine will be difficult. I think my friend's pit has a 20inch neck so choking a dog out would be quite difficult much less trying to break it's neck.
Yes, there is indeed a deeper component to it all.

I have never been attacked by a pitbull, but i would assume trying to choke it would be a good option. Thats a very strong breed and can easily take all the punching, hitting, and kicking you can give it.

Dude it's a dog not a MMA fighter.. as long as your not slow you can probably give it a massive boot in the face and the grab it as fast as ya can. If it clamps down on your arm or something then that's when you put your thumb in it's eye socket. Trust me a human can take down a pitbull... you'll probably suffer some damage but in a fight to the death an adult human should win.

Admittedly they're not pitties, but when you're playing COD4 on PS3 and a dog attacks, you gotta let it grab your arm, then press R3 to snap it's neck. Works for me.

Just sayin....
According to "Fatal Dog Attacks, the Stories Behind the Statistics," by Karen Delise there were 431 deaths because of dog attacks in the years from 1965 to 2001. Children 12 younger were the victims in 79 percent of the fatal attacks.
In 37 years, 342 children were killed by dogs, an average of about nine children a year. Shockingly, approximately three children are killed each day, or 1,100 per year, by their parents. Delise notes that "A child in the United States is over 100 times more likely to be killed by his or her parent or caretaker than by a dog."
Even more surprising is that approximately 50 infants die each year from broken baby cribs, and 250 newborns die at the hands of their parents or guardians. In comparison, two infants, on average, die a year from dog attacks.
Pit bull and pit mixes account for 21 percent of all human fatalities, while mixed breed dogs account for 16 percent and other nonspecified breeds, 15 percent. Delise's study demonstrates that the breed of dog should not be the sole factor by which an attack is judged. Other factors include inherited and learned behaviors, genetics, breeding, temperament, surgical sterilization, environmental stresses, owner responsibility, victim behavior, size and age, timing, and the physical condition and the size of dog.
Of the 28 dogs responsible for a fatal attack between 2000 and 2001, 26 were males and two were females. Of the 26 males, 21 were sexually intact; the reproductive status of the remaining five male dogs could not be determined. The male dog that killed the 12-year-old boy in San Francisco on June 3 was protecting his female dog in heat.
An owner's understanding of dogs, supervision of dogs and children, sterilization and chaining as a primary means of confinement all can play roles in attacks. Whether dogs were obtained for protection, guarding, fighting, are newly acquired or not properly introduced to newborns are among other issues.
In the end, many factors contribute to dog attacks. A popular slogan seems to capture the sentiment perfectly, "Judge the Deed Not the Breed."Professional Wrestler

My buddy gave a report once on how to handle yourself in case of a dog attack. The "ideal strategy" is to hold your arm out, whichever is NOT your dominant arm, so that the dog bites your forearm. Then, You take that arm and grab the dog's front leg (the dog's left leg, if you held out your left arm) and grab the other front leg with your free arm, and turn the dog over on its back, like you're turning a steering wheel. Then, you forcefully spread the dog's legs apart, as if you wanted to put your knuckles on the ground. Assuming his bones don't pierce his heart, which is what is supposed to happen, the dog will be out of commission.
I don't know how well this would work in a real-life situation, though.

Doubt a pit bull would be able to do much by itself against a fully grown man. All the deaths I've heard of are of women and children.

Yeah.. but the only thing I think is that a human is smarter than a dog... I kinda see it as a dog madly rushing at the first bit of flesh it sees and trying to bite it whilst a human can go for the eyes. I'm pretty sure a kick in the face isn't gonna be caught in mid-motion by a dog either lol..

I love how its always Pit Bulls these threads are about, like it would be any less dangerous if a Presa, Dobe, Mastif, Dogo, American Bulldog, Rottie, GSD etc etc attacked you.

here's what i would do
pitbulls lunge, so give them your left arm(i'm right handed), it would be better i your forearm was better but once it grabs it pin it down with your knee on its neck, grab a hind leg and then get up and start swinging wildly (i'm strong enough and i'm sure all of you are), get control and you've immobilised it completely, your decision whether or not you kill it by smashing its head off concrete
fullproof IMO, but you'll still get shredded to ****
i'd rather not get myself in that situation but i plan on having a family when i'm older and i have sisters to look after, so i'll do whatever the **** i can to get the win**** ****ity ****

I've heard the best way to defend yourself against a dog is to present your forearm...where it will hopefully instinctively bite, then reach around it's head with the other arm, and pull your arms together, forcing its head back and it's body forward breaking it's neck.
