When I hit 40, I weighed around 450lbs. That's what you get when you take 12 years off from training. How do you guys find these 20 something old girlfriends? All the ones I know just want me to be their F%&K buddy....
I'll take arrogance and the inevitable hubris over self-doubt and lack of confidence, anyday.......

40 checking in. I notice more aches than I used to, primarily in my shoulders/elbows/wrists. I still train 5 or 6 days a week, and don't see that changing.
For me the gym is therapy for the mind and body, it is 1.5 hours to be alone with no phone, email, television etc.
Cheers and good luck to everyone for 2013!!Thick. Solid. Tight.

Well I turned 53 back in November. This was a photo from last April, I don't take many photos of myself so this is the last good photo I've had taken. My niece Makayla is in the photo with me. She's training now for a show in June down in Oklahoma, hoping I can work it out to go see her compete again.

At 69 years, I have been exercising for too many years to count. Even now I can only work out 3 days a week, and really need the rest. Does it pay off? Does anyone care, or notice? I just had a lady offer me an all expense paidl month in Florida!!
Work out, take all your vitamins, minerals and supplements. East as decent as you can. It really can payy off, and my abs will remain hidden for some time.Do what's right.

just turn 40 as a former career military soldier and athlete. I just realized since I got out of the military in 2004. I am in the worst shape of my life. Starting at my newly found 40 I hope to put myself back into shape this year. So far I have gone from 35%bf to 22.2%bf and 272lb to 237lb my goal is 199 with 13% bf.

over 40 soon to be in the over 50 group
Started early last year after many years of only doing HIIT cardio. Have not lifted weights since early 20s. Pleased with the results. Was always thin, now healthy muscular.
Still learning mucho. No injuries. Came here to find new routines, supps, and the science behind both.
I do hit it hard. The focus behind a good workout produces quite a High.Last edited by UCSMiami; 01-07-2013 at 01:47 PM.

I'm 45. Will be 46 in about a month. I've been working out regularly since about the age of 16. (I'm not huge, but I'm noticeably muscled.) I remember back in my early 20's, older guys would tell me, "You look good, but wait till you have a full-time job", and/or "wait till you get married" and/or "wait till you have kids". I've made it through every one of those. I have to admit when my kids were babies/toddlers, it was tough and I missed quite a few workouts, but I always kept my foot in the door, and now I'm working out as hard as ever.
As someone else pointed out, recovery is the biggest thing I noticed has changed with age.

Giving up is not in my nature. I can be ridiculously stubborn about some things, especially those that are good for me. My back is going to hurt for a while no matter what I do... and now its a mental thing as well as a physical thing so I have to fight my way through it.

Started consistently lifting at 39. Had some health issues creeping up and to be able to manage them, exercise is key for me. This is the fittest I have ever been and I want to hold on to it as long as I can. I definitely don't take it for granted. I just need to keep moving...especially for my sanity.
KEEP MOVING!
