The hoffmans, york, and globe dumbell were all at different yards within 50 miles of me here in NC.

How old do you think that dumbell is and should I pay .25 a lb for it even though there is not a mate for it?

Buy it. Looks like a Tennessee Equipment. Don't pass on any globe or pice of vintage iron at a scrapyard. Save the orphans!

I'll take that advice and buy it next time I'm up that way. Maybe I'll go today. So it's safe to assume all globes are "vintage?"

The going rate for used iron is 40 to 50 cents for plates and 50 cents and up for dumbbells. And those are for non-vintage pieces of iron. It is truly amazing how many vintage iron orphans there are out there. You'll find a sibling soon enough, or help someone else locate a missing sibling by selling what you found. And you saved history.

I actually took a sick day from work today. I'm on my way to get the dumbell and look around that yard a little better.

BTW, one of the semi local yards has lots of old 2.5, 5 and 10 lb plates. Most say weider or are not branded, but I remember seeing some DP and Samson plates. If anyone has one and needs a mate, pm me a pic of what you need and I'll look next time I'm in the area.

of all my many, many years of collecting vintage iron, i for one have never....and MUTASAN means Evvvvver....found a "PICE" of vintage iron. that must be one vintage, antique, hard to find piece, that "PICE", that is. do you think the "PICE" is york, jackson, perhaps berg. any and either way, MUTASAN would love to find a "PICE" that is vintage. how comes you never talked about this "PICE" of vintage iron before skrebs? it is a secret?

Are you sure? I thought Tennessee globes had numbers that are inline with the handle. The globes should be flatter on the ends too.
