Considering homosexuality is a sin if you wanted to be part of the Christian church you would need to repent for said sins, now since gays will remain gay they cannot repent truthfully and therefore cannot be part of the church. If the father was an avid follower of the church he would have a serious problem with the child and it more than likely resulted in what you see in the letter.

I have no qualms with the father, he made his choice because of his beliefs and I respect that.
