A few weeks ago I decided to try something to manipulate leptin levels -

    Previously I was eating 1900cal/day

    I cut my intake to 1800cal/day (6 days a week) and ate 2500cal 1 day a week.

    Same weekly deficit.

I'm still losing at about the same rate even though my bf% is much lower.

Was doing something like this on my last small cut, works a lot better for me too. But Iv found what works alil better for me is that if I keep my calories somewhat high and do HIIT a few times a week I tend to hold onto more mass while losing bodyfat easier

I really enjoyed this read as I found in the solutions certain things I did that were right and things that were wrong. I have experienced a few plateaus in my journey so I managed to practice patience and try different things to fix it. I sort of had a thought in might which I'm not sure might work..

Because of my severe obesity, could I perhaps choose to do a heavy cut to lose weight fast and then just as soon as I see signs of a metabolic slow down I immediately start increasing my caloric intake for a few days.. Then I go back to a heavy cut again.. So far one of the mistakes I did when having a plateau is that I would eat at maintenance without a gradual increase. I found that this made me gain weight which then took me several days to shed off again.

Meanwhile, Tom Venuto's book Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle claims that metabolic slowdown is only something on the order of 10 - 20% and correlates more with bodyweight than anything.

Example: a 300lb person eats 1,000 cals below maintenance. Assuming constant weight, in 3 months he might be eating 850 under, simply because of metabolic slowdown. Of course, in reality, a 300lb person might weigh 270 in 3 months. At that point, he might be eating 600 under.

This is what I got out of the article:

    1. don't eat at too much of a deficit
    2. incorporate re-feeds
    3. keep fat intake high

Sounds like what we've been hearing on these forums. Am I missing anything?

    Good read nonetheless
