That is the only step. From that you get the equation (secx-1)=(secx-1).

secx * (1-cosx) = secx - (secxcosx) = secx - 1.

1 - cosx

(1 - cosx)/cosx <-(the lcd of 1/cosx and 1)

I see the difference, but is that the explicit definition of "verify?" Manipulating both sides does not change the equation, as I'm sure you know, but doing so is not considered verification? That seems somewhat silly to me when it is quicker to just change both sides.

if by verifying you mean proving, then you can manipulate both sides if you need. There is more then 1 way to prove that identity

I always changed only one side.. am I doing it wrong?? sometimes I work backwards on the other side a bit to give me some ideas
