The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it’s impossible to turn back. The Iron never lies to you.

This seems fitting to put into this thread -
I made the suggestion that if the weights were increased they could be pretty sweet. Currently they go up to 20 kg, I recommended 200kg+. I wonder if my recommendation will be approved for posting.*Unaesthetic Crew* Disregard V-Taper, Acquire PRs.

Former CrossFitter here. I had a temporary lapse of judgement and starting training at an affiliate for a few months. I worked the front desk for a few months so I had the opportunity to do it for free. So I figured..."Why not?"
I hated 80% of it...first off, they did not assess new members at all, which phucking pissed me off to no end. I would have people coming in signing waivers who had torn ACL's, shoulder surgeries and nervous system disorders, and then we would throw them into a class doing 50 box jumps and 50 phuckin snatches.
The "programming" made absolutely no sense. One day, we'd be going a 1 rep max deadlift, next day rowing 1000 meters, and next day, doing 50 kettlebell swings. There was no pattern, most if it seemed random.
It's also a cult. If you don't look "fit", people won't talk to you. Srs. Some classes, especially 6:30pm where most of the "elite" crossfitters trained, would barely glance at new members...and the whole paleo diet thing is absurd. People would give you dirty looks if they saw you eating a piece of bread (but beer was okay to drink on the paleo diet, lulz).
On the contrary though, there are some aspects I like about it, and some movements (when done correctly, not for time and not for 10000 reps) are beneficial.
I stopped doing when I randomly injured my back picking something up, and ever since it hasn't been right. Brb, lifting heavy **** for 3 years with no injuries, step into CF gym and leave injured within 3 months.

The only time someone said they were doing crossfit and I though..."Yeah, ok...that's actually not the worst thing for this guy." was when someone fresh out of detox shared that the physical exertion and power movements, in combonation with the sort of team-spirit within the gym helped to give them an outlet for pent-up energy, and that it was helping to keep him sober.
The guy looked as if he was very overweight, but with a base of muscle underneath (that retired football player look...srs). So truely any increase in physical activity was likely benifiting his health as well.
tl;dr version: the only reason you should do crossfit is if you have money to blow, and blow to kick. ^_^My log:http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=147520713

^you'd think people would be smart enough to just swim if their goal was to use a pool for exercising....

Layne Norton: I've never added more than 12 lbs of muscle in a year and most years it was closer to 5 or less. But when you maintain that for over 10 years and you don't miss workouts, it's amazing what can happen
