I take 30 minutes to and hour and that includes my warm up which is 2-3 sets of cleans and presses.
I believe in warming up the way I train. I lift weights so the warm up instead of spending energy running on a treadmill.

I have always responded well to Volume training; so it is 2.5 to 3 hours for me.

I really like Bill Pearl's 20 month program that I am doing right now. I can't wait to try Serge Nubret's workout that I just found online.

I say do what ever works for you.

I get some real nasty looks in the gym from the powerlifters; because of my light weights and big muscles.

Including a 15min warmup on the eliptical, my workouts typically last about 1hr to 1.5hr...depending on which mucsle group I'm working on and how much time I have. Anything longer than that sorta feels redundant and I start to lose interest and strength after that. Once my form starts getting bad due to muscle fatigue thats my que to hang it up for the day.

I think its more about doing what your body can handle and what feels right instead what others fo...or feel you should do.

I have a recliner and a computer with internet in my home gym, which i am sitting in now

Sometimes it takes me 3-4 hours to do 15-20 sets

Usually I will do a set....surf the internet for about 10-20 minutes.....then do another set

I never really noticed any downside to this, other than it takes a long time, but I find this relaxing to workout this way, and I make pretty good strength progression doing so.

If I only have an hour of time availiable, I usually just do 5 sets of one exercise spaced over 10 minutes per set.

Today I am doing about 4 exercises..about 20 sets total...I started at 2pm and probably will be done around 6pm

For the total work/life/workout balance myth. My deal with my wife is: I leave the office at 4PM, dinner is at 6PM. I can workout as long as I want too but dinner will be cold if I'm late. So even with a little driving time, work to home is 6 miles, gym is 1/2 mile from the house I still can get a good 1 and 1/2 hours of good workout time in at the gym.

45 minutes to an hour in the weight room, 30-45 minutes of cardio workout time. I've designed all my workouts to be about 45 minutes except legs and back days which are closer to the 1 hour. I just crank up the level of enticity and add weight to keep having great workouts in the allowed time. Super long workouts can easily be shorten by doing some heavier weight, supersets, compound sets, etc...

IMO, if you're in the gym longer than an hour and 30 minutes weight training alone you're screwing around.

My coach wants my 5 workouts splits to last no more than an hour and a half which includes a 10 minute warm-up and 20 minutes cool-down. My cardio is another thing. It borders on the insane and is 50 minutes daily prior to breakfast.
    Inactivity Kills!!!

My journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=140991491 Age is NOT an acceptable excuse.

I spend 40 minutes at the most lifting. Doing all heavy compound lifts I got nothing left after that time. Can't even imagine 2 hours of lifting.

Cause for most people its not 2 hours of lifting. Last night I watched two guys screw around last night at the gym, while I did 5 sets of squads, 3 sets of SLD and was 2 sets into the leg press, they were still talking at the bench press area and had done NOTHING but work their mouth..

I've done complete back workouts with deadlifts before some people get done doing their million crunches, stretching, and running their mouth.

Some people just don't have a reason to leave the gym, I do. I want to spend time with my daughter and wife.

I spend 1 1/2 hours in the gym but I tend to take 3-5 minutes between sets. I need it to recover.

I'm glad I read this. I thought I was doing something wrong :P It takes me 1 - 1.5 hours to do a workout. That includes 15 - 20 minutes of cardio which I am going to bump up to 20- 30.
