    Pinched nerve?

so...i hurt my back a good few months ago and i felt this sharp tinglin pain in my upper back. I still worked out cuz i didnt think it was much of anything. Later i did go to the doctor and he said just take a few weeks off(of Course)...so i did, then i started back lifting and i felt in more in my lower back upper glute. so i went to a PT and he gave me some exercises and said i could lift but just go real light. Here i am a few weeks later and i feel it does not hurt too bad but it just bothers me when im sitting. Its only in my lower back and glute and KINDA runs down my right leg. Is this sound more of a pinched nerve? what all can i do to help it and how long do you think it will be before i get to lift again?

Well it is definitely nerve related. It could be your sciatic nerve or some other nerve down there. The question is what is impeding on the nerve? It could be muscular strain, it could be an inflamed/damaged lumbosacral joint, or it could be a disc issue.

What can you do to help? Use heat on the area (icy hot or something similar), rest, and try to stretch (look up stretches for sciatic nerve on google).

You'd be best served to wait until you're not experiencing pain before lifting although some of us (including me) workout with mild sciatic pain. However, my injury was 4+ months ago so I'm in the later stages of recovery. You might want to wait.

bro, im in the same boat. Ive pinched my sciatic nerve, just above my left buttock is where the pain is.

The shooting pains down the leg seem to have subsided after about 1 month or so.

when i first discovered the pain i waited around 3 weeks before seeing a doctor, she advised 4-6 weeks of lifting, although i only took 1-2 weeks of before going back to the gym. the pain was there still although not as bad. I still have that slight pain in my lower hip area but my training isnt as good or intense as i would like it to be.

Ice,heat and ibuprofen are your friends here.

My advice to you is to let it heal completely before any physical activity.

All the best, Sciatica is a bitch!
    U mirin' Indian Genetics?

Update: Out for 11* months with Myofascial pain syndrome, Thoracic outlet syndrome, TMJ.
    Haven't lifted since May 2011.
