I copy and pasted the divided by symbol (÷) to clear up any confusion, instead of just using a backslash. I read the problem, vaguely remembered PEMDAS and assumed multiplication came BEFORE division, so I thought it was 2.

it's the same as saying 48\2 x (9+3)
so 24 x 12
so 288.

Multiplication and Division come at the same time... just got do the one to the left first, just like adding and subtracting. left to right but () first.

I think everyone who got 2 did what I did: vaguely remembered PEMDAS and assumed multiplication came before division, so:

48/2(9+3)
48/2(12)
Multiplied here first, so

48/(24)

=

2

Got it wrong at first because I was thinking 48 / 2 (12) still had a parenthesis step to work through, but then I actually thought about that for a second and was like, nope lol.

Step 1) - Solve parenthesis

(9+3) = 12

Equation becomes 48 / 2 x 12

Use Order of Operations to solve. Multiplication and division have the same priority, so work left to right

Step 2) 48/2 = 24

Equation becomes 24 x 12

Step 3) 24x12 = 288

Brackets come first so:

(9+3) = 12

then mult or div. in this case we have both (and they are equally important) so we go left to right and first see first solve so:

48/2 is first so 24

then 24*12=288

No. Multiplication and division have the same priority. Same as addition and subtraction.

You work them in the order they appear in the equation.
