Does anyone else get stomach pains from large quantities of protein???

I've noticed that when I drink protein shakes, it gives me stomach aches. And no it has nothing to do with being lactose intollerant, I dont use milk with them, just water. And the other day I hate an entire lb of lean hamburger meet and got a really severe stomach ache. I think the problem is my stomach has a hard time suggesting large amounts of protein all at once. Once I tried the velocity diet and almost DIED the first day! For someone who's trying to burn fat while keep and even gaining some muscle, this is a terrible dilemma. Is this fairly common amoung some people?

    This sucks!!

Brah...unless your drinking a soy...hemp protein powder...more than likely it contains milk by products so lactose intolerance can still be an issue....Self

Self is right about the milk by-products. As for the meat, are you sure it was cooked properly? A pound of any under-cooked meat will give ya a stomach ache.

I have found using scoops of fiber will help with this pain, it will slow down digestion though. I only have it with the Isolates.

Look to see if it is whey blend. Almost always kills my stomach. Try a different type or one that breaks down much slower.

Adding probiotics and/or enzymes to your diet will help with all of your digestion problems. Trust me they are now a big part in my high protein diet.

You do realize that whey protein is made from milk, right? Regardless of whether you mix it with water, most whey proteins have lactose in them.

I had similar issues when I upped my cals and protein intake two months ago. Until my metabolism caught up with my food intake, I was in a world of hurt.

To speed things along I started adding probiotics with my AM multivitamin and about 30 min. before my heaviest protein meals I started eating pineapple or papaya. (or supplemented with bromelain when I didn't have fresh fruit handy) Once I made those changes the pain/blaot resolved itself in about 3 weeks. Purely digestive issues. Maybe you're in the same boat??

I take a probiotic and fiber gummies everyday and have had no problems with gut rot anymore from protein.

I have less gas and bloating since starting up the probiotic and fiber gummies.
