September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. You can find out more information on special events and programs going on for it at http://www.zerocancer.org/index.html. In recent years they have spent literally millions to educate people on the importance of early detection. Unfortunately a lot of men hate going for exams and only go when there is a problem.
In order to raise awareness people have to get involved and be vocal about the issue. I believe that Breast Cancer Awareness month has become much more visible and successful in their fundraising efforts because it's primarily a disease that affects women. And women are just more vocal about their beliefs, and when we feel passionate about an issue we will move mountains to get things done.

I actually took some time out of my day to look this up, and you're right. Statistically speaking, % of men getting prostate caner and death rates is almost equal for breast cancer vs prostate. It's just that the awareness is more for breast cancer because men aren't passionate about screenings of it.

This 100%. These players need to act like they have done "it" before. I can't stand the 20 second celebration over a sac.
And for the record, I am a fan of the awareness the NFL can bring to a horrible disease. So if it means weaing pink shoes for a couple games, so be it.I'm a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson

If a man lives long enough he can pretty much count on developing prostrate cancer.
Is there more passion for breast cancer....... sure.
Most men I know get more worked up over a pair of breasts than their own prostrate. Just say'in.
David, I see your point, but just go find a b&w tv to watch on until this has passed.
Can you even find b&w tv's? LOL Better go to the antique mall to look I'd guess. Was friends with Methuselah

I'll be the first to say, I get the old prostate checked every visit. Unlike lumps in the chest, the prostate cannot be self examined (that I know of). I have lost too many folks to cancer (prostate, and breast) to let it get me, when a simple exam can catch it early.
I don't know if the NFL choosing to engage this campaign is helping or not. My only fear is that if folks think the NFL is going to give tons of money, "regular folks" may not give as much. I don't think (and this is just my own view) there is any shortage of "cancer awareness" right now. Folks are however still engaging in a lot of dangerous "risk factor" behavior which can make getting cancer more likely, but that surely is a discussion for another time.

Every breast should be saved, but couldn't all that money that was spent on equipment just as well been donated and had a fundraiser, rather than cause everyone to have to adjust the color on their tv.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I understand what you are saying, but it is because of the NFL, AVON, Estee Lauder, Sharpie, and many other organizations that make it so visible that has raised the awareness and the funds.
For example just look how much we are discussing it on this forum, and not only that it is bringing to the forefront a major killer in men prostate cancer. So all the visibility the NFL is giving to Breast Cancer Awareness is just causing greater awareness, whether you agree or disagree is your choice but at the end of the day it's accomplishing the goal it set out to achieve.

Personally, I don't think the NFL should be playing favorites in selecting any one charity, but that's my typically political incorrect opinion.

I agree
my 10 year old son has to wear pink shoelaces as a punishment (his shoe came off twice in a game) for the remainder of the football season, he told his teammates its for breast cancer awareness and now most of of the kids decided to wear them
there's no harm in it, its not making the teams better or worstARMY VET, POLICE OFFICER,SHEEPDOG
