That guy is ripped but he hardly has any mass on him. Not exactly the best example supporting that perspective imo.
Being ripped but only at roughly 150-160lbs isn't exactly a unique or special situation. Remember this is bodybuilding. You gotta have mass as well as the definition.
Being a monster with both mass and definition is a very hard thing to achieve, thus why you see very few people with that look at most of your gyms. You don't get that way by constantly eating poorly.

Haha this thread has been going on for too long.
One thing I never understood about A TON of people on this site is the need to take things to the extreme. It seems like it's either 100% "clean" or 100% "dirty"... what's the harm in having a consistent diet of both "clean" and "dirty" foods? I'm not saying eat Bon Bons and chocolate cake everynight... but having a treat a few times a week while maintaining an acceptable diet shouldn't be a sin.
Face it, the majority of the shmucks on these forums (including myself) are probably never gonna compete anyway. <_<Upgraded from "curls for the girls" to "rows for the hoes".

I never said they couldn't...?!
And poptarts have minimal protein content just so you know.
I guess here come the haters and words getting put in people's mouths again. I'm out. I'm about to embark on a 15hr shift at my gym. Maybe i'll check out the thread again during my break.advertising/self-promotion not permitted

dude lol dunno if anyone reads past posts lol but im a believer in 1-2 even 3 cheat meals per week in the offseason....and during precontest, 1 perweek is good until 6wks out. i eat clean 90% of the time at the moment since it's offseason and i need the size and extra bf for the heavy lifts, but also treat myself (i make a MUST to do so) to have "fun/non-regular-diet" foods here n there. i aint doin a show for a while, so im gonna enjoy myself at times. dont need to be strict in the offseason, as i am getting ready for contest season.
do i eat poptarts postworkout? yes.....every once in a while. but mainly it's either 8oz of baked potatoes or 1cup of oatmeal. and if im on a crunch, YES! i consume the allmighty waxymaize! haha
but to sum up my thoughts, this far into the thread lol, i believe in a clean food diet is a must, BUT do believe that "fun/cheat/bad" (whatever ppl wanna call it) foods are necessary to keep the metabolism running strong, and to not let it get accustomed to just one area of foods (aka, 'clean-foods') 24/7/365.
im gonna end with that. im tired of arguing. let everyone do what they wish to do. i have my way, let others do what they want to do. i have found excellent results in my daily method. if others find success in the other eating path, sweet! glad it's working for em....NPC BODYBUILDER / ISSA Certified Personal Trainer/Nutrition Specialist

What is your logic behind your beliefs?
Let's say I'm about to go train and I have the option between the following two meals:
1. 6oz chicken + 12oz sweet potato + olive oil + a salad
or
2. 6oz chicken + 6oz sweet potato + olive oil + salad + ONE LOW FAT POPTART
So I choose meal 2 over meal 1 because I like Poptarts, am I ****ed? Macros are within a few grams of being identical.
Again NOBODY IN THIS THREAD IS SUGGESTING YOU EAT NOTHING BUT **** ALL DAY LONG.

I agree with you, but posters have been trying to pound this point home for...12 pages? People still don't get it. Every time you say it's okay to have something "traditionally unclean" in *moderation* so long as you eat your macros/throw in healthy foods with it, it gets blown up into, "YOU CAN'T EAT MCDONALD'S EVERY MEAL EVERY DAY."
I don't know if you can get through to some of these people :\

like i ended with bud....do what u wish if it makes u happy. simple. personally, id pick #1 cause my body will feel better after eating that (minus the poptart) preworkout.
would u be fccuked? it all depends on your body and how it reacts. simple as that. some ppl's bodies will react differently then others. just like ectomorphs...they can eat a ton of crap, and barely gain a pound. but thats opposite when it comes to endo and mesomorph body types. AND also, imo, your style of training will determine how food reacts with you. just look at Michael Phelps. dude eats 12000 cals per day, and is lean, in-shape, and full of energy when it comes to training and competition. so, each person is different. so im done sayin which way is wrong or right. ill just keep my way....it works for me, and i know it does for many others. but if the opposite way works for u, and many others aswell...why fix it if it aint broken? keep it up then!NPC BODYBUILDER / ISSA Certified Personal Trainer/Nutrition Specialist

2 Low-Fat Strawberry Pop-Tarts: 380 cal / 78g cho / 6g fat
1 Cup Oatmeal: 300 cal / 54g cho / 6g fat
The Pop-Tarts have 80 more cal and 24 more grams of carbohydrate. OMGZ."Nutrition for powerlifting: If you are serious about it, you will eat f*cking everything and get strong as $hit." - HamburgerTrain

I guess I'll chime in, even though it's rather pointless at this point.
Going back to my first log post in my old training journal (3/15/09) I benched 175x4
As of a few weeks ago, I hit 275x3. So in about 1.5 years I added 100lbs onto my bench press, I think that's pretty good right? I've also gained probably about 20lbs as well, with only maybe 1 or 2% increase in bf. There have been multiple cut/bulk/recomp cycles along the way.
Here's what worked for me.
Lifting heavy, getting enough protein, getting enough calories, and eating out 5-6 times a week.
Why make things harder than they have to be?
I think it comes down to a false uniqueness effect. It's a social psych term that basically means this: People like to overestimate how "special" they are.
You aren't special for trying to eat clean, your just illogical, and in the case of many in this thread...a douche bag.Just livin' the dream...

Defiantly - people are always looking for ways to feel special and better than others. I think the kind of anger you see in these posts shows that.
I mean you would think that is lots of posters, mods, and guys in great shape are all able to point to being able to enjoy things some of the bros think they can't that these bros would be happy. Skeptical maybe, but at least see it as positive. In reality we get the opposite reaction, often accompanied by a lot of anger and name calling. This is pretty common when you threaten someones sense of specialness."And Those Who Were Seen Dancing Were Thought to be Insane by Those Who Could Not Hear the Music."

I think they also like to overestimate how special others are, such as jealously saying how certain people can eat "whatever they want" and still have a great physique. They blind themselves to the fact that they could be doing the same thing and be enjoying themselves a whole lot more.
