I'm an semi-beginner ectomorph looking to gain 10-15 lbs. of mass. I remember reading "Starting Strength" and hearing Rippetoe say to drink a gallon of milk a day.
I don't eat/drink dairy, so I was wondering if it would be alright if I ate a dozen whole eggs over the course of a day, every day, for a couple months. Would this be safe/healthy/okay to do?
Ex.
4 scrambled for breakfast
4 hardboiled before lunch
4 scrambled before dinner
They advise this (12 eggs a day) as a bulking tool over at Marksdailyapple.com, (website of the author of "The Primal Blueprint") so I'm just asking over here on these forums to get some extra feedback.
Thanks guys!

It would be disgusting but it would probably be okay, a dozen a day might be bordering on excess, I eat about 6-8 a day.

If you can stomach that much egg everyday go for it. I think you'd get bored and sick of just eggs eventually though. That's just my thought.
anyways, inb4 some idiot comes in and says too much cholesterol or too much fat.

12 whole eggs a day would be too much cholesterol IDC wtf any1 in this thread says. It's not broscience...cholesterol=terrible for you. If it were 12 egg whites then that's a different story. If you eat 12 whole eggs a day then you're retarded.
high cholesterol can lead to heart disease, heart attacks, and stroke. come at me.

no it is not ok. Each whole egg contains about 50% of your daily cholesterol needs. a dosen will be 600%. The cholesterol in eggs is HDL (the good kind), but too much is still harmful.

Please do us all a favor and go do some research before you go and harp about how the American Heart Association is the all-mighty of everything to do with our health. If you still think that intake of dietary cholesterol is directly correlated with increase in blood cholesterol after reading some intellectual and scientific sources, then please, go right ahead and harp on.

you need to do better research...
http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/t041100.asp
"it's not cholesterol that clogs arteries, it's foods high in saturated and hydrogenated fats"
"eggs are not an especially high source of saturated fats"
your beloved AHA was even mentioned
"If the American Heart Association is not concerned about the cholesterol in eggs, neither should you."NPC BODYBUILDER / ISSA Certified Personal Trainer/Nutrition Specialist

Okay lets talk about saturated fat. Yet again this is flawed when discussing eating a dozen eggs a day. 12 eggs is around 25g saturated fat, which is already more than you should get in a day, and that's assuming that is ALL the saturated fat you will eat that day.
edit: All I'm saying is find me some research that says its fine to eat 84 eggs a week and I'll agree*19ft master race crew*

The harvard health article has nothing to do with anything.
"Fact: Eggs have a lot of cholesterol. The average large egg contains 212 milligrams of cholesterol. As foods go, that’s quite a bit, rivaled only by single servings of liver, shrimp, and duck meat."
Yes, eggs have a lot of cholesterol. Fact. But nowhere on that page does it say dietary cholesterol leads to high blood cholesterol (except for diabetics). That is of course until you start to read the Myth section.
And your second article, most likely written by some journalist who thinks they know everything about nutrition and myths. Get some actual research and articles made by scientists and doctors with PHDs and then we'll talk
edit: and obviously there isnt going to be an article specifically telling you that eating 84 eggs a week is fine. The main issue here is the amount of dietary cholesterol intake with correlation to blood cholesterol.

Well if I do start eating a dozen whole eggs a day, which I plan on doing, after 10 weeks or so, can I just go get some blood work done to see how my body is responding? or will that not show the whole story?
I had a physical with blood work last thursday, so maybe I could compare the results of that blood work, with the blood work I'd be getting if I ate a dozen eggs a day for 10 weeks?

Why not just milk? I'll take milk over eggs any time. in 10 oz you get 10g protein, 15g carbs, variable fat (whole, 2%, skim), 3.8g sat fat in 2%, 355mg calcium, 455mg potassium, and much less cholesterol (24mg or 8%). Not to mention its a mix of whey and casein.
