    No sore back from deadlifting?

Usually, my lower back is very sore the next day when deadlifting. I usually follow an extensive warmup for deadlifts, for example I'll do:

    135x10
    225x10
    275x5
    315x5
    365x3
    405x1
    then 3RM (right now it's 420x3)

However, yesterday I tried something new:

    135x5
    315x3
    405x1
    425x3
    465x1

I have pretty much no soreness at all in my lower back today... Is that a good or bad thing?

Naturally, less volume = less soreness. But, as you get stronger you'll tend to get more sore when you go heavy.

Soreness is not in any way an indicator of a good or bad workout. People tend to get sore when they do something they haven't done recently. Generally, people stop getting sore after working out consistently for 3 weeks (or at least get much less sore after that point). Nobody understands what causes soreness but there's nothing to indicate it can indicate the quality of one's workout sessions (at least that I know of).

It's probably a good thing. Your warm-ups looked freakishly exhausting. You could probably get a bigger triple if your sets were with fewer reps to begin with.

on the other hand, going 135 straight to 315 probably isn't the best idea

    135x5x2 sets
    225x5
    315x3
    365x1
    405x1 or straight into worksets

Deadlift soreness is random for me, sometimes do a ton of volume and have no soreness, could do the same thing next week and be sore as hell!

I would just do singles after 315 and only double or single 315.

So you warmed up then did four deadlifts, two of which were difficult.

Did you expect to be sore?
