I came in 6th out of 7 in the 105 kg class and my total would have won the 105+ by 24 kg, lol.
Also seconding the "light openers" advice from Triple F. I opened real light at my first meet on Sunday and I'm glad I did. Setting up for that first snatch was a lot different than any experience I've had in training, and I'm glad I didn't compound it by worrying about bombing out because I opened too close to my max. After I hit my first attempt, I knew I'd post a total and didn't have to worry about it.

I totaled 160 at my first meet at 77 kg and there were people who totaled less. I don't think you should worry about numbers. First meets are all about the experience and not missing the lifts. Competing is a lot of fun, it also makes you train harder, watch your diet and sleep more carefully. And yes, 69 kg class is not popular in local meets. Go for it!

Smolov can be very successful and i've known people who run multiple cycles and have monstrous squats however to this day i'm amazed at how many people have become crazy strong by just linearly adding weight and doing a boring 3x5 etc without spending hundreds of hours on forums. Its simple and boring but man do I ever wonder what my numbers would be like if for the past 3 years i'd have stuck to LP and stayed healthy. Analyzing my own lifting highs and lows, intense short term programs have always put on lots of lbs but then either stagnation or injury then regression.
The MDUSA guys like James Tatum are doing linear progression and they're at pretty high volume of the classical lifts plus at "elite" level strength.
I love programs like Smolov and Russian squat cycles but I feel like if you can't run it 100% dedicated, focused and have adequate nutrition + rest it's very risky and you can come out weaker. It's a high risk gamble that i've done with myself many times and lost often. Since you're pretty skinny to begin with and probably don't have much of an appetite its the factors outside of lifting the weight that will make or break you.
on a side note while im ranting: i've officially re-injured my calf badly to the point where I can't do a bw squat without ibuprofen. thats what I get for trying to max out when I drank, ate nothing and got 4hrs of sleep.Misc Strength Crew

Cheers bro, I'll give it a shot when my work term ends and my study term begins in January...my appetite is pretty dead when I'm working an office job but I'd like to see how a different style of training works for me. Felt like linear died out for me a year ago and been running 5/3/1-like setups for the last year or so. Will definitely put a big focus on recovery/eating/sleeping.

tips for power jerks?
I will never be a power jerker, but they help with the spit and whatnot.
Once the weight gets semi-heavy I begin to kick my feet way wide
