MMA is quite popular but not always that effective, you sort of end up being a novice at everything and master of nothing. would still work though. i did ju-jitsu for 4 years and found it effective

Not really black belt fights are the most exciting **** ever with tornado kicks and high jump kicks going everywhere I really didn't like the fact that take downs and face punching was legal for black belts now.
You're pretty ignorant if you're not trolling any martial art can help you in a fight if you know how to use it and you're not just some jackass who takes a martial art to just say he takes one.

I've been doing Kickboxing ever since i was 12, and then when i hit 16 I moved to BJJ and switched Kickboxing to Muay Thai (Allowing knees and elbows) . Id say look for a local gym and just go there for one of the tryouts where you test the gym. It's really fun and competitive if your that type of person.

yeah i knew someone would say this, but from my dojo this lad who must have been about 20 5'7 and 170 lbs started UFC and twated everyone who he came up agaisnt because he had mastered one particular martial art and i'm not saying MMA is crap just that in my opinion not the best to start with and benifits more experianced fighters who have all ready got some knowledge of matial arts or boxing15 years old

you said that mma isn't that effective, lol you couldn't be more wrong, how the hell can you say that mma isn't effective when it's been proven so many times to be the most effective form of fighting under rules. if that "lad" from your dojo went up against any decent amateur who had experience in all parts of mma he would get his **** wrecked. Just being good at one art doesn't cut it these days against people who train in multiple arts.
mma isn't even a style like you implied, it's simply the combination of many styles to make the best fighter.Last edited by the_guvna; 05-02-2009 at 10:52 AM.

i dont know what to say... just do whatever you like, unless you want to become a profissional fighter thats the best thing you can do IMO
its just like asking "what kind of musical instrument should i learn to play?"
and about MMA... idk it just feels wrong, MMA wasn't supposed to be an actual fighting style, just a set of rules for events.
edit: oh and about jiu-jitsu/BJJ they are completely different get informed IRL if possible to avoid false informationLast edited by Tamandua; 05-02-2009 at 02:03 PM.

Amen, people treat MMA like the ultimate fighting style or the ultimate weapon in a fight when the truth is MMA is just the basic training of 3 martial arts, not newbies to it but not pros either. The word is just a popular fad, most martial arts are nice by themselves with no extra help from another one.
