    you guys use gloves/straps ?

i dont, and today i was deadlifting and on my last set some guy asked me if i wanted to use his gloves. he said my hands arent strong enough to lift the weight i was lifting without gloves...
my next set i bossed it. my grip is strong. however, my next pr...... i probably need to get straps/ chalk or something.... i feel it slipping on towards the end.

You can also use an overhand/underhand grip for deadlifts and shrugs so you dont need straps. it will help your forearms if you dont use them.

I use gripads instead of gloves, they are absolutely amazing! They have much better grip than any glove I have tried, no need for chalk! When working back I do use straps, it's great to take the stress off your forearms and really work your back. I have great lifts and never have to stop or cut my set short because my grip is giving.

Try it all; chalk, gloves, grips, straps, varied grip and then decided what works for you. There is no right or wrong in this.

I just got Versa grips and they are amazing. I was getting really stalled on my deadlifts, not progressing because my grip was so bad. I kept thinking it would improve, but it wasn't getting any better and I was getting really frustrated. I had the best deadlifting session ever with the grips - was able to move way up in weight and do a lot more - best thing I ever did. I'll just have to make sure to do other forearm work so they don't get weak.

I keep debating getting straps or something of that nature... Right now I just use gloves to prevent calluses. I don't really think that the weight I'm lifting right now warrants straps...more need to improve my grip. But I'm sure there will come a time in the future that I get straps.

It sounds like you have no need for gloves. I do recommend chalk to prevent your grip from slipping.

I only use my gloves for curls, they are the kind with the wrist straps. I have small wrists and they prevent any soreness/injuries for me. I'm not so concerned about my hands because they usually get messed up at work anyway. I notice I have a lot more confidence lifting heavier because I'm not so afraid of soreness after.

I use straps. (Helps keep the pressure off my grip so I'm not manhandling the bar!) Sometimes I'll use wraps for my wrists (I have dinky wrists!). I freakin hate gloves though. When I first started lifting I used them ... but they just got annoying. So I stopped using them. Have some pretty beastly calluses now ... (kinda proud of them LOL!)

I've seen some extreme examples. I watched a friend's hands tear from not wearing gloves because the weight was stronger than his skin. It was insane.

I personally use gloves because I don't like having extremely calaused hands. My fingers are already rough from playing the guitar. As I have up the ante on the weight that I push I find myself needed straps because my hands are not strong enough especially with my deadlifts. I have been deadlifting a littl over 150lb. For a 5'4 girl 115 lbs my forearms and hand muscles cant hold long enough for me to complete the sets i need to give my hamstrings the workouts they deserve. If you need suggestions and sizes please let me know. I love Harbinger 130 Classic WristWrap Glove (Black). They provide excellent wrist support

I use gloves. They're pretty worn and I really need to buy a new pair. Here soon I'm going to need some straps for deadlifts, but right now I'm okay without them.

I use straps for deadlifts, RDLs, pull-ups, and DB shrugs. everything else I used gloves. I don't want my hands getting too rough and I don't like my grip strength stopping me from pulling weight to work on another body part that can handle it.
I swear, this 9 pounds better have been worth it.

I use gloves because my gym doesn't allow chalk
I am prone to easy calluses if I don't wear them when I do deadlifts
plus the gloves adds to my mental state. I feel like a super hero (yes, sounds immature. come at me)

I use gloves mainly because I don't want anymore callouses as I already have the most unfeminine hands as it is from my other hobbies and previous work. I have metal allergy and have wondered if the bars don't contain nickel because I get a dermatitis type rash if I lift without gloves. Also my hands bleed without gloves and gym doesn't allow chalk. I've had to start wearing a support strap on right wrist because of wrist pain. Have been considering getting hooks or straps for a few lifts though. Will have to look into these Versa-grips as I'm not familiar with how they work. Have only seen one person using them.

i use FemmeFitale gloves because they are cute very comfortable, but i will buy for performance next time.

seriously, i would like to try versa grips. except the one from Versa Gripps, is there any other brand ? That question sounds weird, but anyways...

    This was extremely helpful info!
I kept slipping on my deadlifts & bent over rows (having to stop mid set) and I was thinking that it was because I'm just starting and don't have the (hand/forearm) strength. Its kinda nice to know its not only that factor. I haven't seen chalk at my gym - would gloves be the best option for me now, since my only trouble is that my grip is slipping? And its making my already calloused hands worse.
I'm not telling you its going to be easy, I'm telling you its going to be worth it.

Metal allergy checking in here too! I've never played with the dumbbells or barbells with out gloves, but I'm wondering if I did if I'd break out too. I cant even wear hypoallergenic earrings =( feelsbadman. And that's why I stretched my ears. To wear cute girly wood/bone/horn/stone earrings.
