the fat in most fish oils on the market

For a standard 1g capsule, there is about 300mg of EPA/DHA.

Does anyone know what kind of fat the other 700mg is? I hope it isn't saturated fat :S

    Its deemed "Not Healthy"

My Fish Oil is the same also 1000mg of Fish Oil yet there is 180mg Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and 120mg of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)

I am also unsure to what the other 700mg consists of, but seriously its 0.7 of a gram is it relly going to make that much difference?

That's because fish oil is only 30% EFAs by volume. They aren't adding anything to it.

Fish oil isn't made up entirely of EFA's. The fat that isn't EPA/DHA is just fish oil/polyunsaturated fat. It's fine.

    Thanks for this.

...and for the record I usually have 20 or so capsules across the day so .7g ends up being 14g of fat. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't excess saturated fat since I already drink more than a litre of whole milk everyday.

The remainder are other O-3 fatty acids like Docosapentaenoic, Stearidonic, Eicosatrienoic, Eicosatetraenoic, & Heneicosapentaenoic FAs. Still, it's 20 grams of fat though.

Why so many? You know that problems can arise with cumulative high tallies right? [Not saying it's inevitable, but something to be mindful of]

Look up the profile of fish fat (it varies a bit, but not a whole lot). Some of that it other omega3's some in mono and some saturated fat.

Salmon fat naturally has some saturated fat in it, just like beef is not 100% sat fat - in fact it is loser to 50%.

Nature (generally) isn't as extremist as we are and natural (esp. wild) foods are likely to have some 'balance' to them.

Just out of curiosity.. Does anybody add fish oil to their total intake of fats (if you keep track)?
Just going through the motions is one of the most disadvantageous things you can do.

When I did, yes for sure. 6g of fat from fish oil is not really any different than from food and could easily be 10+% of your daily fat intake. If I ate a piece of salmon with 6g of fat I'd count it.

If it didn't 'count' then why even bother taking it?
