A hot piece of silver metal, 552.0g in mass, was dropped into a cup containing 332.8g of cold water. The final temperature of the water is measured to be 18.2 Celsius. It was determined that the water gained 1.238kJ of heat during the process. What was the initial temperature of the metal when it was dropped into the water? The specific heat of silver = .235J/g deg C and the specific heat of water is 4.18J/g deg C.
Studying for finals. Most of the material is easy but this type of problem kicks my ass. I appreciate the help!
Posted this in the Misc. already but they weren't being helpful today

I don't think this is right, but I ended up with a final answer of .2445 J/g d. c

Pchem 1; I don't understand thermo or kinetics to save my life. Pchem 2 was quantum theory and is, IMO, much easier because I understand the math and the concepts much better. But as a whole, pchem sucks balls. Analytical is shytty, lots of math, careful labwork, but relatively easy. Inorganic is kinda homo-lovin but still easy. All organic classes are cake; instrumental analysis is cake; grad analytical was uber shytty but my prof got his Ph.D. before NMR was even invented, so that's why it sucked balls because he just sucks and is about to die (I hope!!). Even grad pchem was rather easy compared to undergrad pchem and we didn't even cover quantum in grad pchem.
