http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11481410The effects of garlic supplementation on protein metabolism were investigated by measuring testis testosterone and plasma corticosterone in rats fed diets with different protein levels. In Experiment 1, rats were fed experimental diets with different protein levels (40, 25 or 10 g/100 g casein) with or without 0.8 g/100 g garlic powder. After 28 d of feeding, testosterone contents in the testis were significantly higher and plasma corticosterone concentrations were significantly lower in rats fed 40 and 25% casein diets with garlic powder than in those fed the same diets without garlic powder. {...}

You have high testosterone and are horny, but no babes will let you near! lol
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

Good luck with that.Interpreting the study is what counts.
8 g of garlic powder/kg was consumed. Standardize that to human weightIt is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

ABSTRACT
Abstract References
Aim: To investigate the effects of crude garlic on adult male rat reproductive functions. Methods: Thirty male rats were divided into five groups: group 1 (untreated) and groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 were fed for 30 days with 5%, 10%, 15% and 30% crude garlic, respectively. Testes and accessory organs were weighed and some markers were assessed. Light and electron microscopy observations were also performed. Results: A significant decrease was observed in the body weight of groups 4 (14%; P < 0.01) and 5 (20%; P < 0.01); of the prostate weight in group 5 (29.1%; P < 0.05) and of seminal vesicle weight in groups 3 (14.4%; P < 0.01), 4 (18.3%; P < 0.01) and 5 (27.3%; P < 0.01). In contrast, testis and epididymis weights were unchanged. In epididymis tissue, the alpha glucosidase activity and the spermatozoa density were unchanged. The treatment resulted in a significant decrease in testosterone serum levels in groups 3 (77.3%; P < 0.01), 4 (77.3%; P < 0.01) and 5 (90.9%; P < 0.01), associated with a significant increase in LH serum levels (P < 0.01). Testicular histology showed a dose-dependent increase in the percentage of empty seminiferous tubules. Moreover, testicular function was affected; a significant decrease in phosphatase acid activity (P < 0.01) and testosterone (P < 0.05) contents were observed. Conclusion: Crude garlic consumption during 1 month reduced testosterone secretion and altered spermatogenesis at 10%, 15% and 30% doses.

Garlic (aka stink flower) has been one of the most prominent components of western medicine for thousands of years. It's up there with fasting and vinegar.
It's a natural anti-biotic, it lowers blood pressure, it's thermogenic.
Do you know a lot Germans used to eat (some older Germans still do) raw sausage. As you know eating raw pork can be pretty dangerous. Traditionally a lot of garlic is used with raw sausage, which must help blunt the dangers.
The plant actually wards off mosquitoes. They won't lay eggs in the presence of garlic plants. While eating large amounts makes your sweat stink even worse, it will keep mosquitoes off of you.
One thing about all those Garlic pills. I'm not convinced they do ****. When I chop up some fresh garlic and put it some food, the effect is very noticeable. I feel a strong thermogenic effect.
I use a lot of fresh garlic when I make Sicilian style steak. Half way through eating it, I can feel my body heat up, my sinuses blow out, and I'll start sweating. The effect is similar to eating chili or anything with a lot of pepper.
I can swallow a bunch of garlic pills and nothing happens. Garlic is one thing where I think whole food definitely trumps supplements.

The study used the language, "rats in the garlic group were fed one of these diets supplemented with 8 g of garlic powder/kg diet (garlic diet)."
I think they merely are referring to "diet" to discuss the garlic group. So, if your average human weight 175 pounds, that is 79.5 kilograms (175 pounds divided by 2.2 = 79.5 kilograms).
So, even if this rat study applies to humans, it would require a daily dose of 636 grams of garlic powder (that is 2.75 cups or 44.7 tablespoons) for a month to achieve comparable levels of garlic to that used in the study.

As confusing as it is, rat diets are often specified per 100 grams of diet. You'll also see how much / the weight of chow that they eat per day specified as X grams / 100 grams body weight - and in the case of rats it's ~ 10g / 100g body weight. So they ate about ~9-24g of chow over the study period as they gained weight from 90g to 240g which means they consumed between 0.072 g and 0.192 g of garlic powder or 0.8 g / kg bw. HED based upon simple BSA dose translation [Km-rat / Km-human = ~0.15], since inter-species dose translations should not be done based directly upon body weight, would be 0.12 g / kg to go along with 40% of your diet being casein but would likely end up be higher in reality. The MOA that onions and garlic likely exert their effect in rodents doesn't work so well in humans anyway.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

When I eat lots of minced raw garlic, I get strong erections the next day or the day after. I don't need any study to know that it works.
