    sets/reps for lean look?

just wondering how many sets/reps to do for a lean muscular look. i don't really like the big bulky body builders look (not trying to knock on anyone). i've been doing 3 sets of 12 reps. should i increase repetition or is this a good amount to keep the lean look?

There is this guy named Pat that goes to my gym he loves to give people advice to everyone.. I see him everyday hes always trying to help me out.. He won like Mr. Canada and then competed in Mr Universe and came like 5th or something.. hes sooo freaking huge like you have no idea blows people away that you see on bottles that company's put on there supplements lol.. anyways he swears by 6 sets of 12 reps for all workouts. he will pretty much yell at everyone in the gym if they are not doing it that way.. He says do 4-6 exercises for each muscle group with 6 sets of 12 reps.

What are Pat's thoughts on rep speed, form, and rest interval?

Rep speed, should be slow with good technique.

Rest time, I'm not sure but I wouldn't say to long because if you rest for more than 2 minutes he will yell "stop being a pussy and start lifting some damned weights"

A lean look is maintained with diet, not reps.

i used to be skinny at 130 lbs (i'm 6-2) always wanted to get big with mass not that i did i wann lose it lol

lets say u maintain diet, i was at 230 lbs i stopped going to gym for a month cut down on food, ate salads, chicken , fish ect. (no sweets, basically ate well) not that that i ate junk b4 but i ate like a monster and i lost 20 lbs but i still look huge u can barely see that i lost anything

and everywhere i look it states differently some say more weight less reps to get nice and ripped and some say less weight more reps so which is it?

say u got ur diet under control how should workout routine look as far as it comes to weight and reps also if u can comment on rest time in between would be great

    thx

socrates is correct, diet is key. however you can pick up the pace in the gym and get your metabolism going faster with less rest.

what you can handle. 10-15 reps. sets until the muscle fails. i use a gauge to see when im 'done' usually its a 135 benchpress, if it feels really heavy, pushups if i cant get 10 or so. pullups for the back. always use a gauging finisher to see when you are smoked.

i am an instinctive trainer. i dont put a limit on sets or exercises. i dont even count reps. do what u feel is best for you. like i said gauge it out.

6 sets of 12-15 reps? You'd have to use super light weight. That's what that fcuk model uses on each exercise?
