Yes, when I have a desire to ride an electric bicycle, I will know that it's time to give up the heavy weights...

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
I will choose a path that's clear

my thought was to get to 2x bb squat which would be 360. but then that is so close to 400. now, when I get there, I'll let you know if I think there is another mountain to climb, but as I stand here looking at these 2 mountains, I am thinking, why would I climb a third mountain?
Plus, I just came off all those other mountains: 1x bb squat, 225 (2 plates) bb squat, the same on both for deads, also made it to 3 plates bb squat and deads, currently at 325 bb squat and 335 dead lift, .... well you get the picture.
remember, I just got into this to look good naked. I am thinking I should work on bf% a little more and then I am pretty much done. the problem is my mom, I go there to pick up the kids and she pushes food on me (Italian food- she is the best cook, it's like crack *******). I am going to have to go far away and and eat zero carbs for a week to get rid of these love handles...
so, yes, you are done when you are done finding mountains to climb. At my house, we listen to both kinds of music: Led and Zeppelin!

There is some research out there that suggests that people into their 70's and even 80's should be doing some weight training to maintain healthy muscle and bones etc -
I'm sure as I go past 60 I may start to lose strength (hopefully later than that!) but I think I will always lift in some way or another.
Alot of old people in the UK eat too little and dont challenge their bodies enough which in turn ages them.

My personal experience is that you will eventually hit a wall and heavy becomes nonproductive because you have nowhere to go. What is the first thing every new powerlifting schedule includes? A major drop in weight and some increase in volume. It's the mind over matter thing when lifting heavy that gets in the way! Nobody wants to drop back 30-50 lbs. on a squat. Took forever to get there. So I would say that rotating higher volume workouts with heavier lower volume workouts throughout the year does more good than not. I've been injured 3 times that took me out of the game for 10-12 weeks at a time. Each time I started over the weight was....measly, pathetic. Everytime I not only got back to the original numbers, I always passed them.

good points
I am thinking to rotate the volume v heavy every other session. it seems so easy to get in the rut of going heavy every time. Like I am trying to push to the next db every time I go to the gym. who do I think I am? I am not going to move up 5 lbs on my hammers every time I go. If I did, I would only need to go to the gym 3 more times to accomplish my goal. think about it, I would be able to cancel my membership by the end of the month. it doesn't sound realistic. At my house, we listen to both kinds of music: Led and Zeppelin!

Yeah, but you are talking about periodization. When most people say "I no longer lift heavy", they don't mean they are shifting things around to break through plateaus -- They usually mean that they don't lift heavy weights ever.
Personally, I can't see any reason at all not to go heavy. I lift heavy alot, and my joints feel great. In fact, the last time I got injured was when I was going light with incline DB press.
