Do 99% of men get tattoos thinking it will get them chicks?

i'm trying to better understand the thought process that takes people down the tattoo road.

for men, it would seem no matter the meaning behind the tattoo...there is thought given to "this will help get me chicks".

i've had people tell me you can't assume the reasoning behind EVERY person's tattoo. but on the other hand i can't see many valid sounding thought processes where the reasoning isn't "look at me"/"this will make me cooler"/"this will help get me chicks". so essentially the assumption that tattoos are done for other people seems valid is the vast majority of cases.

true, your logic is sound, i got nothing against tattoos per se but it would have to be something important enought to literally print it on my skin, something that has meaning. i havent found anything like that so far and i wouldnt just get 'a tribal' because as you said, 'im so cool look at me', that's the equivalent of a ugly ass sloot dying her hair to have something about her and call for attention

i think a lot of people want to enhance their "coolness" with tattoos so they go looking for things meaningful enough to justify tattoos. that way no one can say they just wanted to look cool...BUT MY TATTOO HAS MEANING BRO!!

Yep. People will deny this under torture of course because it implies they are not as individual/authentic as they like to believe.

But unless you are a genuine asexual, doesnt everything you do revolve around sunconcious procreation. And even if you are an asexual, unless you grew up alone in a cave you are indocrtrinated from birth in a scociety that has evolved around the concious and subconcious proliferation of our genetics.

And even without culture every single behaviour/adaptation we have is based on surviving long enough to ensure the success of the next copy of our genes - this goes back way before hominids or mammals.

no my tattoo was for me. I am letting my gf give me a tattoo soon though - not cause she will think it's cool but because I think it will be.

Then if/when I get to Iceland and lift the Husafell I will get a tattoo of the Husafell before I leave

looking tough or coping for insecurities could also fall under the "get chicks" umbrella. i see a lot "square" looking dudes that have desk jobs getting sleeves with dragons/gothic castles, etc -- probably wanting to project that they also have an edgy side on the dating marketplace.

i always wanted them growing up because I thought they looked cool.

girls generally dig them so it didn't weigh against per se.

Would wish them all away if I could, mainly just because it would be nice to be 'naked' again, but i don't even notice them anymore, and don't have any in places that inconvenience (face, neck, hands). I also don't regret them either.
